At Home Workouts Without An At Home Gym!

I'm not sure about you, but I definitely don't have the luxury of an at home gym to help me get through quarantine without gaining 100 pounds. Especially considering all of the stress baking and cooking I have been doing.

Here is how I am making working out at home without an at home gym work!

1. Take Advantage of YouTube

I have seen so many gyms and workout studios advertising for online workouts or virtual memberships and while I think that is great and did a Charity Zoom the other day to help support Feeding Westchester, it just makes so much more sense to me to use resources like Youtube for workout videos!

One YouTuber that I love for workout videos is Chloe Ting. The workouts are short but intense and will leave you feeling sweaty and sore!

2. Make Use of What You Have

I do have some workout equipment, although I would in no way qualify what I have as at an home gym. I have a few resistance bands, a $7 yoga mat from target, a jump rope, a 5 pound kettle bell from Marshalls, a foam roller also from Marshalls, an 8 pound weight, two 10 pound weights and an ab wheel!

I accumulated all of these things here and there when I was able to find them for very inexpensive prices. Although it's not much, it has made working out at home much easier for me - which I was doing a lot of even before quarantine to save money on a gym membership!

Even if all you have is an empty space on your floor, you will be surprised with what you can use to help you work out. You can use a chair to help you with squats, a towel as a resistance band, any heavy objects in your house for weights. When you're creative, the possibilities are endless!

3. Make a Schedule

What has helped me the most with staying accountable with working out at home is creating a schedule for myself! I'll write down the days I know there is a live stream workout I want to do, or schedule youtube video workouts when I know the weather won't be nice enough to go outside and walks to listen to a podcast and get fresh air when the weather is nice. Doing this has also been really helpful with keeping some level of routine and sanity in my life!

4. Take Advantage of The Outdoors

While I am currently waiting for knee surgery and can't really do too many intense workouts like a run or hike, I can still walk outside and get some sun. It is so important to get sun for both your physical and mental health, so even if its just a few loops around the block - I guarantee it will make you feel a bit better!

5. Working out Improves Mental Health!

The most important part of working out, in my opinion, is that is makes you happier and stronger, not only physically but mentally too! Whether it be going up and down the steps of your apartment, taking your dog for a really long walk or doing a workout video in your room, it will help you feel in control and feel happier!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
