As Thanksgiving is approaching, I know I am getting very excited. It's my favorite holiday for so many reasons and I can't wait to get back home.
A trip back home.
As a college student, I don't always get to go home. Whenever I can get there even for a few days it is really exciting. I get to see my hometown and everything I miss from it, but I also know that I'll be back at school shortly.
A break from school work.
After pulling my hair out for weeks because of school work, I finally get a break. You won't see me looking like this picture for the next few days.
Veg out on the couch.
When I go home all I ever want to do is sit on the couch and do nothing. That's something I rarely ever get to do anymore. Now that Thanksgiving is approaching, I look forward to enjoying quality time with my couch.
You get to do laundry for free.
As a college student, I constantly dread paying for laundry and a trip back home means I'll be doing a load or two. Now that I know I'll be back for more than just a couple days, I can start saving up my dirty clothes now. Or maybe I already have been...
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade only happens once a year. Marching bands, singers, and massive balloon animals. What else could you want?
Food.
A common favorite part of Thanksgiving is the food. A holiday for being thankful and eating tons of delicious pies, cranberry sauce, turkey AND gravy? Yes please.
Football.
On Thanksgiving, you've gotta watch football. It's tradition. Even if it's not your favorite sport or you barely understand how it works, you always end up watching some team run back and forth across the field scoring touchdowns (hopefully the Pats).
Friends.
This is probably the first time you and your friends from home are back at the same time! Time to hear everyone's stories, including the one about how one of them got hit in the head with a field hockey stick during her game...
Family.
I don't get to see my family too often anymore, so when I do it's a great time. No matter what we're doing just being around them makes my day better.
You remember how much you're thankful for.
This part is right in the name of the holiday; "thanks" giving. It is really nice to take some time to remember how much you're thankful for. Even if it is only once a year, you will realize how grateful you are for the people in your life and all of the things you've experienced. Have no regrets, everything that has happened has made you who you are today, and that's something to always be thankful for.
I hope you have the best time this Thanksgiving, and not only enjoy the food and the family, but all of the other little things as well. It really is a great holiday.
