What to do if You're Sick of Eating Food from College Dining Halls

Food in college can be a difficult task to handle. You get tired of the same choices in the dining halls quickly, not to mention most aren't the healthiest options. Here are some things to try if you're sick of dining on campus:

1. Have a "Chopped" cooking show dinner party

Sometimes the best dishes come from ingredients you wouldn't normally combine. Ask your friends to dinner and have each bring one ingredient. When everyone arrives, figure out which ingredients you have and then work together to create your "Chopped" cooking show final dish. Time it if you're feeling brave.

2. Google "locally run restaurants near me"

If you're tired of going out to eat at food-chains restaurants but still want to eat out, this is a good choice. You can get to know a location so well if you take the time to figure out what the locals like. Also, who doesn't like a break of scenery?

3. International night

Craving food from home? Try to recreate something you grew up eating. Ask your family for a recipe and get together with friends and have an International dinner party.

4. Find one easy to prepare recipe, Master it, then Repeat this step

Get excited about new flavors and dishes. If something looks good on Pinterest, now is the time to pull out the recipe and try to make it yourself. If it's good you know you can make it again, master it, and be proud of your work.

5. Have a Potluck!

Potlucks are always a great option because you end up some different choices. You never know what you'll get, so invite your friends over and figure out what dinner for the night is.

6. Put Hard-Boiled Eggs in your Ramen Noodles

Ramen noodles get boring after eating them every weekend. Spice things up by adding a hard-boiled egg to the dish. it's an upscaled version of the ramen noodles us college students love.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
