While Los Angeles may have great weather throughout the year, summer is arguably the best season in L.A. Experience a summer to remember without breaking the bank.
1. Outdoor movie screenings
Nothing screams summertime in L.A. like picnicking on a blanket while watching a movie under the stars. For movie fans, the summer outdoor movie season in Los Angeles is the best of all worlds: classic films and modern hits are shown on the big screen under the stars with plenty of food and drinks. These screenings are called "Street Food Cinema," which is more than your average film in the park. It's like a screening crossed with a concert and a farmers market, which kick start during Memorial Day weekend and then follow through to the end of September.
2. Hiking in L.A.
Getting acquainted with the numerous hiking trails in Los Angeles is the perfect way to discover why L.A. is the ideal place to get outside. A few hikes that are moderate and easy include Runyon Canyon, Griffith Park Trials, Wilacre Park, Eaton Canyon and Will Rogers State Park. Make sure you take a camera, stay on the trials and most importantly, have fun.
3. Beach trips
A day at the beach is one of the best things to do this summer. When you think of California you can’t help but think of sand and surf. If you are looking for some fun in the sun, you can leave your car at home and take the Metrolink to the beach. Metrolink is offering a weekend day pass for only $10. This pass allows a rider to ride any time, anywhere system-wide on either Saturday or Sunday.
4. MLB baseball games
Los Angeles has two professional baseball teams: the Angels and the Dodgers. Attending a baseball game is a true American experience. The atmosphere is fun and tickets are very affordable.
5. A bus or train adventure
Flying can be so cheap these days that people sometimes forget about the bus or train. Sometimes the journey is half the fun and you’ll see new parts of Los Angeles you’d never see otherwise.
6. Visit a new museum
With over 100 museums in Los Angeles alone, museums are L.A’s hidden gems for Los Angeles residents. During the summer most museums are inexpensive or even free, they are a great way to explore the city and nourish the mind while on summer break.
