15 Instagram Accounts That Will Make You Fall In Love With Birds
Katie Eigenbrod

Most people like to see pictures of cats and dogs, and most of the time people will ask if you're a cat person or a dog person. There are also horse people and reptile people, both seem to be more of an abundance than bird people. As a bird person, it makes me a little sad, but I think birds are the most beautiful, perfect animals. In order to spread my love of birds, I've decided to share this article, and hopefully make some more people fall a little bit in love birds, or at least look at some cute Instagram accounts.

Here's my top 15 accounts to look at (The order is not based on ranking!):

1. Harley the Cockatoo: Parrots are fun and super cute, but they can also be sneaky and loud. This account details both the highs and lows of being a full time cockatoo owner. You may have heard of Harley, or seen her without realizing that it was this bird! She has many popular videos, but the most common is her testing out her vocal range by yelling into a cup at different pitches.

2. Gotcha the Cockatoo: Another internet famous cockatoo. For me, it's fun to see the personality differences in two similar cockatoos (both are Moluccan cockatoos). Gotcha is probably most famous for his videos of him running around in the hallway and yelling complete malarkey. Gotcha's account also includes an African Grey named Letty. For dog lovers, the account also features cameo's of Gotcha's owner's dog. She also has an axolotl. While Harley's account details the fact when you get a parrot, you are pretty much bringing a three year old into your life for the rest of your life, Gotcha's talks about the importance of adopting and rescuing pets!

3. Adventures of Roku: If you're an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan, you will love this account! The first two accounts on this list include two cockatoos with loud personalities. The Adventures of Roku features two macaws, Roku and Korra, a Major Mitchell cockatoo, Pabu, A Hahn's macaw, Zuko, a budgie, Taco, as well as many others. Adventures of Roku gives you the experience of watching two incredibly beautiful macaws fly and watch as the babies on the account grow up. Roku and his bird family also have play dates with other birds who have their own accounts, so you get to find even more cuties through them!

4. Rhea the Naked Birdie: Rhea is also quite the famous little bird. She has Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease which means she can't grow feathers. Rhea doesn't let that stop her though. She is able to climb, chirp, and run around just like any other bird. Lots of fans have sent Rhea handmade sweaters to keep her warm. This account always makes me heart so happy and Rhea is simply the cutest!

5. Katie's Birds: This account details the adventures of an independent wildlife carer named Katie. Not only does Katie share pics and stories of her own birds, but also the birds she rescues. Some of the birds featured, like Tookie and Rosie, are pluckers and you get to see their progress! You get to see baby's grow up and sometimes you see Katie make some hard decisions. This account is basically the life I wish I had: filled with birds and doing good in the bird world. You see the highs and lows of working in the bird world too, which I find very interesting.

6. Rio and Tweety: Rio and Tweety are two Indian Ringnecks. Rio is blue and Tweety is yellow and they're both so cute. I love the aesthetic of this account as well. Normally, aesthetic accounts are associated with nature photos and fashion accounts, but I love the focus of Tweety's and Rio's colors in this account. I also love the different personalities of Rio and Tweety. If you know anything about birds, you know that ringnecks have the cutest little voices, and these guys are no different. There are a few videos up of Rio babbling to Tweety and trying to get Tweety out of cuddling in a blanket and I'm so in love!

7. Lory the Lorikeet: Lory is a black capped Lorikeet who lives in Brazil and has birdie brother named Theo. Lory is the main focus of the account and he cracks me up. Lori is always up to something and, as you can see from below, is very photogenic. He has a ton of personality and whenever I'm feeling down, a video of Lory up to no good never fails to lift my spirits.

8. Beaker the Parrotlet: Parrotlets are the smallest parrot. One time, I looked up reviews for them, and someone said, "They are so small and easy to lose" and it made me laugh because you don't really lose a bird unless they want to get lost and how small can these birds really be? Turns out parrotlets are very small (smaller than my own bird who is very tiny), but what they lack in size they make up for in personality. Beaker is absolutely adorable and sometimes I can't get over how small he is. The owner also occasionally posts about one of her other parrotlets who passed away and was also a cutie.

9. Walterhazen the Conure: This conure has the fanciest name ever, which is probably why his account is named royalbirdy. Walter's account details shenanigans Walter gets up to as well as his bird brother, a pionus named Betrim. Both of them are super cute. This account is also incredible aesthetically pleasing and I love every single post. Walter's owner is a big advocate of 'Adopt, Don't Shop', which is something I firmly believe in.

10. Angry Eddie: So all of the accounts in here pretty much feature parrots. As a bird person, I am very drawn to parrots and hence don't follow a lot of non-parrot acounts. This is one of the non-parrot accounts that I do follow. Angry Eddie is a magpie. Recently there has been more research on crows and corvids and how their brains work (also with parrots; we're finally doing research on how non-mammalian brains work). Eddie is always fluffed up and looking like he's about to murder someone. I love seeing Eddie play and it's really neat to see how a magpies show affection and play. Corvids are equally intelligent to parrots, but it's cool how different their actions are. Occasionally, Eddie's bird family is featured.

11. My Own Little Zoo: This account is run by someone who I admire. Laura, the owner of the account, rescues birds. She has her own flock of Amazons, African Greys, caiques, conures, a Hahn's macaw, and many more. All of the birds are rescues or adopted. Laura's posts speak to the importance of knowing what you're getting into when you get a bird and the importance of adopting a bird versus going to a breeder. Currently Laura has 21 birds and I love seeing them grow, as well as seeing new members join the flock.

12. Capone the Bird: Capone the bird is self described as a true thug and and licensed gangster. Capone's account also features bird friends and his little chicky bird. Capone is sassy and cute, and I can't get enough of him. He also has incredibly beautiful colors and pictures of him are always so nice to see.

13. Coco the Conure: Coco is new to Instagram and is the absolute cutest. I don't know a lot about Coco, but I do know that this little bird is more photogenic that I could ever hope to be. Coco is playful and snuggly, and Coco's owner captures all of it in photos. I'm going to include a couple extra pics just so you understand exactly HOW CUTE THIS BIRD IS.

14. Rosie the Lovie: I have a soft spot in my heart for lovebirds. My first ever bird was a peach faced Fischer's lovebird and she was my entire world when I had her. There's just something incredibly special about lovebirds and they're personalities. Rosie's account features Rosie, Chilli, and Trevie where Rosie is "the boddy big sis who loves cuddles!". This account is so pure and so full of love and I melt every time I see a picture of the three little birds together. Not to mention they all have beautiful colors and I really like the feed of this account.

15. Nugget and Billy: Nugget and Billy have the relationship you have with the person who's been your best friend since childhood. They are so funny and so cute. I've been a long time follower of this instagram and every time I see their posts, it makes me want a caique like Nugget and a Senegal like Billy. I've met caiques and Senegals before but these two are just perfect.

This was supposed to be the end, but I had to do two bonus accounts because I literally Can Not Stopâ„¢ talking about birds!

16. Pepper and Pals: This is one of the bonus account I'm adding to the list! Pepper and Pals is for all you memers out there. I myself love some quality memes and let me tell you: Pepper and Pals does not disappoint in the bird meme department. Just yesterday, my brother shared 3 of their memes on Facebook. Besides the meme content, Pepper the cockatiel and his bird family that consists of another cockatiel named Macha, four budgies named Tango, Marshmallow, Popcorn, and Bazooka, a sun conure named Mango, and two finches named Dany and Jamie.

17. John and Judy Collins: I know a lot of people don't like seagulls. They call them the rats of the air. They don't like how loud they are or how they poop on your beach chair/umbrella and sometimes even you. Well, I believe that they are wrong. I've had this weird love for seagulls for a long time. This account features two seagulls, John and Judy, who visit the same window at the same house every day. The account features John and Judy just hanging out, eating, and squawking. Occasionally, their son Jeremy is featured.

I hope that this article made you rethink your views on birds for those who aren't people and for those whoa are I hope this brought some cuteness to your day!

(P.S I wrote this while holding my own birds and I kind of felt like I was cheating on them. If you want to check out my babies, here's a quick pic! They can also be found here!)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
