St. Louis, Missouri, is a city with a ton of unique things to do for the whole family, especially in the summer. Here are some of the best things to take advantage of in St. Louis this summer.
1. The St. Louis Zoo
The St. Louis Zoo is the number one zoo in the country, and it's free of admission to get in. Of course there are some attractions that cost money like the Children's Zoo, stingray and shark exhibit, the train, and the carousel, but they are so worth it. Spending a day here and looking at all of the amazing animals, including the newly renovated polar bear and sea lion exhibits is sure to be a blast.
2. The Muny
The Muny is the largest out door theatre, and the summer shows here do not disappoint. This summer's season looks absolutely amazing, and getting a group of friends or family together to catch one of these amazing shows will be such an entertaining night. Don't feel like paying for seats? No problem! There are free seats in the back of the theatre for the public to come and watch the shows.
3. Forest Park
Yes everything I have mentioned so far is in Forest Park, there is so much more the Forest Park has to offer. Forest Park is bigger than Central Park in New York City, and has way more to do. From the zoo, Muny, Art Museum, History Museum, Jewel Box, and so much more, there is always something to do in Forest Park and always something going on. Take a paddle boat on the lake, eat at the Boathouse restaurant, have a picnic on Art Hill and so much more. Forest Park is truly an amazing place and there is always something fun and exciting to do.
4. St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Game
Nothing says summer like cheering on the best team in baseball at the most gorgeous stadium. Watching the boys in red while enjoying a frozen lemonade, hot dog, or an ice cold beer is the best summer past time, and is something very unique to the city of St. Louis.
5. Food Truck Friday
One Friday a month in the summer, Tower Grove Park hosts food truck Friday. Food trucks from restaurants unique to St. Louis line up along the street of the park. There is also usually live music to entertain everyone at the event. Although it is usually incredibly crowded, it is the best event to grab food and hangout with family and friends.
6. Botanical Gardens
The Botanical Gardens is an absolutely gorgeous place to take a nice relaxing stroll through absolutely gorgeous flowers and lights. There are also so many different festivals going on throughout the summer as well with even more gorgeous and beautiful decorations and lights that should not be missed.
7. Grant's Farm
Grant's Farm is a smaller version of the very popular St. Louis Zoo. It is built on Ulysses S. Grant's property and it is even possible to tour his house. Here you can take a tram ride to see a ton of animals up close and personal, and once you get off the tram, there are even more exhibits and animals to see and take advantage of.
8. Six Flags St. Louis
Of course Six Flags is no Disney World, but it's a great place to spend a day riding roller coasters, eating food, playing carnival games, and even splashing around in the water park. Get a season pass if you plan on going multiple times this summer, this way you don't have to buy a ticket each time you go. Because it's Six Flags, more flags, more fun!
9. Ted Drewes
Ted Drewes is one hundred percent the best ice cream in existence, no questions asked. They make ice cream the way no other ice cream place makes ice cream because they have the concrete. The concrete is unlike other frozen custard because the cup can be turned upside down, but the ice cream does not fall out! Not to mention it's absolutely delicious. Not feeling the famous concrete? Shame on you, but they do have a number of famous sundaes that are also to die for.
10. The Arch
The Gateway Arch is the symbol of St. Louis, and it's possible to go up in it. Take a ride into one of the dinky little egg elevators and experience how gorgeous the city of St. Louis is from up high. Even though the Arch is a universal symbol, it's also a hidden gem because not many people know that it's possible to go to the top. Go to the top during a Cardinal game. Watching the Birds from the Arch is an awesome experience!
