10 Signs You Are From Odessa, Texas

In Odessa, TX, there are definitely some sure-fire ways to know who's from there and who's, well, not. These 10 signs are what make Odessans unique and special.

1. Your favorite restaurant is Rosa's and always will be.

It's your home away from home and it tastes SOOOO good.

2. You feel passionately about either the Panthers or the Broncos.

Obviously, the correct answer is the Bronchos.

3. You know Friday Night Lights is about your town, even if the movie and the TV show have serious inaccuracies.

Fine, Permian had this one. Just this one.

4. All of your friends from outside of Odessa don't understand how the word "y'all" sneaks into every sentence you speak or text.

All y'all just need to accept that I enjoy using the word y'all, okay y'all?

5. You were seriously upset when Blue Bell Ice Cream betrayed you.

Listeria contamination, Blue Bell! Are you kidding me?!

6. You know you have to wait until after the mesquite blooms to start your garden.

AND we are the home to the largest mesquite forest in the world.

7. Texas Independence Day is celebrated yearly and in true Texas fashion.

And any word from a hero of the Alamo, that's sacred.

8. When there is even a hint of snow, school gets cancelled and the entire town shuts down.

Since moving to Massachusetts, I became well-acquainted with real snow and no snow days. Consider yourselves lucky!

9. You know there are only two major social places in town: Starbucks and the Mall.

So many hours spent drinking coffee and walking the mall eight hundred times with friends.

10. Finally, you know you're from the best town in Texas!

Odessa, TX for the win!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
