Thomas Edison is a special place. Eagle Pride is something that carries on with you even after graduation. As I head towards the end of my freshman year of college, I've spent some time reflecting back my high school experience. High School wasn't an easy time, but I'm thankful I went to Edison. Edison High School introduced me to some of my best friends, gave me adults to look up to, and helped prepare me for the real world.
To Edison High School-
Thank you for having such great teachers
The teachers I had at Edison were outstanding. They cared about my academic success and about me as a person outside of the classroom. I remember seeing them come to sports games to cheer students on. My teachers still reach out to me. They gave us students awesome opportunities and wanted everyone to succeed. One of my favorite parts about graduating high school was being able to friend my teachers on Facebook because they are genuinely cool people. Any Edison Alumni knows how great Mr. K is. We can think back to how much Ms. Vergara taught us in government class and how hard Mr. Racek made us laugh. My teachers made learning fun and their passion for education was contagious.
International Baccalaureate (IB) classes weren't easy, but they were worth it
Although I've to explain what the IB program is to almost everyone, I'm glad I took IB classes. The IB program helped me become globally aware and a better writer. I had the opportunity to read powerful books I probably would have never known existed. The different things I learned in the IB program helped my transition to college and contributed to who I am as a person.
The Extracurriculars helped students form a community
Any eagle knows the Battle of the Birds is more intense than any NBA Championship or Super Bowl. The coaches and teammates I had during my four years I helped me become stronger, taught me discipline, and showed me how to work together. All the different extracurriculars Edison offered ranged from student government, sports, to theater and they helped students find passions with people they got to see everyday.
Thank you for having a Leadership Class
One of my favorite parts about Edison was taking the Leadership Training class. Students were given opportunities to engage with the community and were able to learn how to become better leaders. Leadership class helped students become independent and realize how crucial planning/ organizing is in order to conduct successful events. Class discussions helped open minds to new perspectives. Some of my favorite high school memories were planning pep rallies, dressing up for spirit days, and conducting events for the school body to show their eagle pride and make a difference.
The Diversity
I can't stress this enough. Thank you so much for being such a diverse school. I am beyond grateful I was able to attend one of the most diverse high schools in the state. It is so important for young adults to be exposed to all backgrounds and cultures. Edison also appeals to students through it's different classes and the academy program. Being exposed to diversity benefits our generation as we go onto becoming the leaders of the world.
Thanks for a great memorable four years of learning!
