The summer of 2016 is coming to an end for many students as we all head back to school for the next nine months; but even with all the commotion of buying school supplies and reuniting with friends, the Olympics are splashed all over magazine covers, advertised in commercials and played hours and hours on television, there is really no way to avoid the Olympics during the summer. Why would you want to? Gymnastics, swimming, track, tennis and basically every other sport you could imagine has its moments that makes you laugh, cringe and relate. We all have thoughts and when we watch the Olympics those thoughts are only magnified.
1. Simone is 19 and winning gold at the Olympics? OK, I'm 19 and contemplating spending $2 on Taco Bell while watching the Olympics in bed.
Simone is truly my inspiration to get out of my bed and drive down to Taco Bell rather than ordering in. The sad truth.
2. How is Gabby Douglas' lipstick perfect after she does the uneven bars but I still struggle to put on Chapstick?
And I'm also still trying to figure out Kylie LipKit.
3. Michael Phelps wins again, so its confirmed he's the offspring of Poseidon.
Hey, Phelps, you should really share one of those gold medals with me, you know?
4. The Russian diver who scored a 0.00, now I have someone to relate to.
Nadezhda Bazhina is a Russian diver who was supposed to dive into the water but fell a bit short when she landed on her back, gaining a score of 0.00, but that's OK because I would've done the same thing and now I can actually relate to someone in the Olympics and know for sure they aren't superhuman.
5. "The man is responsible." Yeah, I don't see you in the water, dude.
The female Hungarian swimmer broke a world record and won gold but the reporter was sure to call out that her husband/coach was responsible in to which I thought, "yup, because her husband is in the water swimming and vanquishing world records."
6. Lilly King is a savage.
Her honesty is making Hoosiers proud.
7. Ethiopia's Diro just put quitters to shame everywhere.
She lost her shoe while running but rather than quitting or making an excuse, she ran anyways and made anyone that's ever quit on anything so embarrassed. Diro displays tenacity and determination.
8. I make the same faces as Aly Raisman's parents when I see my grades halfway through the semester.
Yeah, exactly the same. It's anxiety, nervousness and lots of freaking out.
The Olympics are such a fun event during the summer but there is always those few moments that last a long time or just trend as a meme on Twitter for awhile. Either way, the Olympics of the year 2016 is definitely going to be one for the books...at least if you're Michael Phelps and Simone Biles.
