We've all been there. A stressful situation. Whether it be from work, personal lives, or something else, stress certainly creeps up from time to time.

In the moments, we need to find a way to de-stress. And as the adage goes, will it still bother you in 5 years from now? Probably not. Stressful moments are fleeting and we need to put them in perspective. We're probably making them a bigger deal than they actually are.

So how do we bring down the stress level? Here are the best ways I've found to calm down through many years of experience:

1. Listen To Music You Enjoy

A tried & true. Music works. Especially when it's your favorite music, as we all have personal tastes.

2. Work On A Coloring Book

Seriously. Bring it back to the childhood level with an adult twist. It's very calming.

3. Spend Time With Your Pet

Whether it's a cat, dog, gerbil, goldfish, it doesn't matter. Scientific research has proven pets bring down our level of stress.

4. Put On A Good TV Show Or Movie

A perfect distraction. Just what we need when we're stressed out.

5. Take A Walk, Run or Jog

Just get out of the house. Going for a walk, run or jog is a great way to de-stress.

6. Meditate on Things You Enjoy

Meditation is another proven way to bring down the stress level.

7. Go Shopping

It doesn't have to be a shopping spree, but just the act of shopping can be very relaxing.

8. Talk to a Close Friend or Family Member

Connecting with a familiar face can be another great way to de-stress.

9. Head To The Gym

It's a great way to release stress and get your mind and body right.

10. Find A Quiet Place To Reflect

It might be a pond, a park, a forrest, it might even be in your home, just find somewhere to relax.

11. Plan A Trip

It's one way to get your mind off of stress. The act of planning can give you something to look forward to.

12. Indulge in a Bubble Bath

A bubble bath is definitely one way to relax.

13. Light Up A Candle

The scent may be just what you need.

Are we missing anything? What do you do to relax? Think about it. All ways to combat stress and calm down.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
