To my dearest friend,
It occurred to me that, as much time as we’ve spent together, I’ve never actually thanked you for all that you have done for me. You have probably never even realized how much impact you have had on my life but I really wouldn’t be who I am today without you. I truly appreciate everything you’ve done for me.
You of all people know how much of a hard time I had internally during middle school and even throughout high school. I never said it out loud, but you always knew how I was feeling before I realized it. You still do that now and it never ceases to amaze me. It is hard to put into words, but there was just something about our friendship that brought me out of my shell after transferring schools three times in a row.
Social anxiety is very difficult to handle at that age, especially if you do it alone. When I moved back in seventh grade, your familiar face is what got me through. I cannot thank you enough for staying by me when I really needed you. To be honest, there is a lot I have to thank you for.
Thank you for always being there. Thank you for helping me become who I am. Thank you for never failing to make me laugh. Thank you for always visiting me at work in the summer. Thank you for embarrassing me in public. Thank you for your ridiculously awesome maniac laugh. Thank you for being there when my grandpa passed. Thank you for being the kind of person who plans out adventures you want us to have. Thank you for always reminding me that you are older than me (By one day!) Thank you for telling me I’m beautiful when you knew I didn’t feel that way. Thank you for 15 years of memories that will last a lifetime.
I think it really is rare for two people to remain best friends for their entire lives. We’re only about to turn 20 and we’ve already been best friends for 15 years. It amazes me that during those 15 years I moved to two different schools, both about an hour away, and when I came back, you ended up leaving for the last two years of high school and we still remained just as close.
I then moved over 700 miles away for college and we talk everyday like nothing has changed. There isn’t a more caring, loving, beautiful, kind-hearted person in the whole world and I am more than grateful that I get to call you my best friend. I hope one day 40 or 50 years from now we will be sitting on the back porch watching the sunset in the summer time, drinking margaritas and telling stories of the wonderful times we’ve had together. (We could be drinking cosmos too, whichever you prefer. Honestly, we probably shouldn’t be drinking like that when we’re that old but whatever.) You are truly my other half and I love you to pieces. Here’s to the rest of our lives girl!
