In being Jewish, the holiday season is an interesting time. The world suddenly becomes a land full of red and green.
This past week Starbucks has been in the news for their holiday cups. For those who may not have been outside in the past month, people are hating on Starbucks' 2015 Holiday cups. They are solid red, with no design, and contain a slight ombre red vibe with it getting darker through the bottom of the cup. The main concern regarding these cups are that they do not have any Christmas spirt. They are taking the "Christ" out of Christmas. People are in uproar over the fact that there is no Christmas key terms or Christmas related things on them like the past. As a result, people are boycotting Starbucks, and no longer a fan of them...more revenue for Dunkin' Donuts.
I personally love these cups. I think they are simple and beautiful. They are classy, and not tacky with an overdone Christmas theme to it. And as a Jew I love them. When I first saw them, before the controversy, I even texted a picture of it to my mom to show how they are the nicest one's yet in my opinion. For Starbucks, and all companies for that fact, their holiday cups are a piece of art. And this year's cups are beautiful.
My whole life there has been a world filled with Christmas things, and no Chanukah things. Even though Chanukah is not a religious holiday, the world transforming for something you do not believe in is a hard world to live in. Maybe there is a piece inside of me that love these cups because their is no Christmas related swag on it besides the fact that it is red. There is no Chanukah cups, nor do I want one. Cups are not what the Holiday season is about.
In fact, the Holiday season is not about just Christmas, or religion more importantly, it is about coming together as individuals. We need to forget about these red cups, and get into that holiday cheer. A cup should not impact your holiday season, you should just be happy you got a delicious Starbucks drink in your hand.
