Softball, Beyond The Diamond

Beyond the diamond I am just a kid who loves the game

Softball, Beyond The Diamond

Softball… One of the few things that has caused me so many highs and lows but at the end of the day always brought a smile to my face. The sport is more than balls to the shins and diving catches. It’s more than composite bats on a cold day or your team cheering you on like crazy from the dugout. When we go beyond the diamond, I find some of the happiest moments in my life. Yes, those moments will always be apart of me but when I started playing softball, it came with something much greater that you won’t see on the field.

You’ll never see me and my greatest stress reliever. After a bad week, the feeling of simply hitting a ball off a tee is the best feeling in the world. That bat is 24 oz. of pure joy to me. All the memories it has brought me after I realized that I am a power hitter. On the field you’ll only see me in the box. You will see me slug the ball and you’ll see me strike out, but just know you haven’t seen the last of me. Beyond the diamond you have the time I hit a tennis ball right at my coach, unintentionally but it was still funny. Beyond the diamond you get soft toss with your teammate who always screams that thing that makes you laugh mid-swing. Beyond the diamond I still have the same bat but that bat brought me more joy than a good hit ever will.

Beyond the diamond you get endless laughing. Softball gives you a second family, a group of girls who truly adore you. When you take your last swing of the game, no matter what happened, you'll always have your girls who will be there for you in a heartbeat. Beyond the diamond, you have the girls who have seen you at your best and at your worse but together you have pushed through.

Softball teaches you many life lessons that we take beyond the diamond. Please excuse me for being cheesy, but softball taught me that a team is not solely defined by skill but the love your teammates have for each other and the game.

Softball gave me a story. My number, my team, that random bruise; it all hold meaning in my heart. Most importantly, softball gave me a new start. From taking little league way too seriously all the way up getting your first hit at the varsity level. It's all a process and it's not an easy one. Looking back, I am so grateful that picked up that ball for the first time ever.

Beyond the diamond I am just a kid who loves the game. When the game comes to an end, it'll always be apart of me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
