When you think about sororities, most girls think "I'm not the type of girl that would be in a sorority," so they don't consider going through recruitment.
I was that girl, too.
I didn't think I would belong in a sorority. I'm nothing like a typical sorority girl.
I'd rather be watching football games Thursdays through Monday nights in the fall, and I care about the games during March Madness. Not what most girls even care about, but hey, I guess I'm different.
I didn't think I belonged in a sorority because first, I didn't really understand what sororities do and what is entirely the point of them. And if I didn't understand what they are, why should I go through recruitment?
Even though I didn't understand Greek life at the time of recruitment, I still tried it. Everyone told me I would learn what it's all about as I go. Which is true. I learned so much from recruitment!
Sororities and Greek life as a whole are so much more than just social houses that you pay money to to have friends and "sisters for life."
They're organizations that do so much good for their philanthropies and have amazing volunteering opportunities available. You meet a new people, and it's great for networking opportunities. On top of that, you do really meet your best friends at college and have "sisters for life."
As cheesy as that is, it's true.
I decided to rush and fell in love with Greek life and my house. But still, being in a sorority, I'm not the typical stereotype sorority girl.
I don't own any Lilly Pulitzer and to be honest don't think it's cute at all. I hadn't even heard of Vineyard Vines until I was in Greek life, and I'm not close with the guys in frats or care enough to be like almost every sorority girl possible.
Not saying every girl in a sorority has the same personality and love all the same things, because that isn't true. Everyone in every house has different hobbies and likings.
So if you don't think you'll fit in Greek life, there will be someone along the way who will share interests with you. And having people who aren't a stereotypical sorority girl in your sorority house adds a little variety!
If you're someone who doesn't know if you want to go through recruitment, just try it! If you don't enjoy the process or find a house that you love, there is no pressure that you have to join!
Becoming a part of Greek life was the best decision I have made at college so far, and I wouldn't change it for the world. I surely didn't think I would ever be apart of a sorority, and here I am now loving my house and all of my sisters!
