Even though I was a cheerleader in high school, I will admit that, more often than not, I was less than entertained with the actual sport itself. But, that didn't mean I couldn't enjoy a quick hot chocolate at halftime, or the check out the view of each player's behind from the sideline with my fellow squad mates! It was then that I learned that there were two ways to enjoy sports -- the classic 'I understand and get invested in the game' type, and then there is the 'pass me a beer and where are the appetizers?' kinda fans. So with the Super Bowl having just occurred, I thought I would share my favorite things about Super Bowl Sunday with you not so sporty girls so that everyone goes out and enjoys the festivities all the same!
Food. Need I say more? The Super Bowl has the potential to be just as delicious as Thanksgiving itself, with a plethora of pull apart buffalo chicken dip bread, mini pigs in a blanket with dipping sauces, and millions of other fried, crunchy and mouth watering appetizers that will rarely be around again until the next super bowl Sunday. So by all means, start a group potluck with some friends and have everyone bring one item! Trust me, you can never go wrong once food is involved.
Drinks. Duh! For those of us who are now legal, there is nothing more fun than getting rowdy and supporting your team with a few ice cold beers! Especially because specials will definitely be offered, there is no reason not to go out and celebrate! Besides, what better way to make some bar friends than a few cheap pitchers and a few great plays by the team you're rooting for! Whether it be sports bars downtown or the duck dive at Pacific Beach, be sure to get out and celebrate! Unless you are the DD, of course!
Commercials. This part may be even more fun for the girls like me -- the non-sporty girls who are not into watching the game that much. Truthfully, after I have had a few beers, I tend to be easily entertained! But you have to admit, Doritos nailed their commercials last year, and I have to say Budweiser did an amazing job this time around!
Halftime show. This is, arguably, the best part of the Super Bowl -- at least, when Beyoncé was performing it was. But I suppose that is not the point. Katy Perry -- while she is no Queen B, the girl apparently knows how to put on one hell of a show. She killed it this time around and that mechanical lion was #flawless.
So as you can see, folks, there are many reasons to celebrate the festivities of the Super Bowl! Whether you love the game or love the amenities that come with it, I hope you all find a way to celebrate! And, of course, thank you to my amazing Patriots for taking the win!
