Are You Mad for March?

Not the bad kind of mad -- the really really good kind of mad.

Are You Mad for March?

I come from a typical American household -- for the most part. While we love 'Murica, I cannot say my family has ever been into sports. Some find it hard to comprehend the fact that Super Bowl Sunday and the NCAA Final Four are American staples. The only reason we ever turned on the Super Bowl was out of curiosity and because of the halftime show. So when I got to college, I never expected that I'd be where I am now -- going from the girl who had no idea who was playing in the Final Four or what a rebound was, to thoroughly in love with college basketball.

If you go to a Division I school, it's hard not to get into the spirit of sports on campus. Impossible, even. Especially, if you go to a school that has been a basketball school for as long as anyone can remember -- Kansas, Kentucky, Duke (ew), or good ol' North Carolina. It helps that my guy friends are diehard basketball friends and can teach me the ins-and-outs and history of the game, of course. Regardless, I know I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I love Carolina basketball and I love March Madness. And this is why.

1. It makes seeing the players around campus the next day that much cooler.

2. It makes meeting MEETING the players around campus that much cooler.

3. The school spirit is mesmerizing.

4. More excuses to wear Carolina blue day in, day out!

5. You learn a lot about teams outside of your conference and end up enjoying games that aren't just Carolina games.

6. You end up learning more and more about the history of the game.

7. There is always a good upset.

8. You make fun of your friends when their brackets get ruined.

9. Turning on the game makes you feel better after a crummy day.

10. It can be more intense than any movie. Plus, you never know what's coming next.

11. It gives you even more of an excuse to hang out with your best friends.

12. It gives you even more of an excuse not to do your homework.

13. Especially when your school is diehard basketball, meetings and clubs usually get cancelled if the game is on.

14. Small gatherings to watch the game usually turn into a massive crowd, a.k.a. perfect excuse to make new friends!

15. Going out to Franklin Street to watch the game is really the best.

16. You get to watch Dook suck.

17. Because basketball is just all around really awesome.

18. Because Carolina basketball is just all around really awesome.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
