Every year, there is a contingent that claims the year in question is the worst year of their lives. Obviously those people are walking hyperbole. The drama has been extended this year due to war and politics world wide and the significantly large amount of famous people who have died. However, whether warranted or not, it is not healthy to look forward with a defeatist attitude. I encourage everyone to look forward to the new year for the following reasons:
It's Great to be Alive
When Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke about reporter Craig Sager shortly after his death this year due to cancer, he proposed a moment of joy to honor him. The entire Oracle Arena in Oakland, including both sets of players and team staff, gave a loud ovation of applause to honor Sager's life, characterized by a perennial joy for life even when battling cancer. Each day is a gift, and not only should we make the most of it we should strive to enjoy each one.
More Chances to Complete Goals
Goals and heights you failed to reach in 2016 should be considered objectives to reach in 2017. View them as challenges to look forward to, rather than oppressive self-imposed deadlines you force yourself to adhere to. Most importantly, believe in yourself. Believe you can do what you set your mind to. Let the combination of hard work, determination, and passion lead you to a successful year.
More Places to Travel
There are several more life experiences waiting to happen, and one of the best ways to experience them is exploring new places. It may not mean traveling abroad, like to pictured Cape Town, but maybe some interesting cities or national parks within your state or country. If you can, take the opportunities that come your way. You may have a lot of work to do, but be sure to schedule some breaks and vacations in your 2017.
I have a feeling 2017 will be a great year for everyone. Have a happy New Year's!
