It is finally 2017! 2016 was a year that overall seemed like it was pretty rough. For me, my personal life was great, but worldwide, it seemed as if we just couldn't catch a break. Especially with all of the deaths recently. However, not everything is bad.
The reality is that every year bad things happen and they often overshadow the good things. And sometimes there are periods of time where things don't look like they are going to get better, but we have to stay positive and live in the moment. Now that 2016 is over, it is time for us to put everything that has happened behind us. Dwelling on the past will paralyze you and keep you from moving forward. It will also keep you from thinking about all of the great things to come. Each year brings new opportunities, friendships, and possibilities. Instead of spending our time being upset about our misfortunes, we should be preparing for all of the good things to come.
The New Year gives you an opportunity to look at your long term goals and create new short term ones. Open your mind to new ideas. Try new foods. Travel to a new place. Read the book that has been sitting on your shelf for years. I hate to use a cliche, but the world really is your oyster. The only thing stopping you is, well, you. If you don't have the money to do something, then find something else to do.
You will get out of this year what you put into it. So, put in some effort and put yourself out there. The New Year gives us a shot at doing things over. Use this year to focus on the positive. Mend those relationships that have suffered and cross items off of your bucket list. Our time on this earth is short and each day is not guaranteed. Use this year to live your life to the fullest and I promise that you will be happier than before.
