What Kid Cudi's Recent Announcement Says About Society

It seems as though society has developed a general assumption of famous singers and songwriters that because they do not need any sort of assistance monetarily or with their popularity, the same goes for their mental health as well. This mentality even expands past celebrities, to those who are not. There seems to be this underlying attitude lingering in today's society that everyone is mentally OK, and depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts are not a real things that some people actually struggle with on a daily basis. This is a very toxic thought process to promote, as this is what makes depression and other mental health issues become a taboo to the general public. This was definitely proven by songwriter Kid Cudi and his announcement for taking a break from releasing music to receive professional help for his ongoing depression and thoughts of suicide.

Throughout Kid Cudi's announcement to his fans, it should be noted that he apologizes. Kid Cudi is apologizing for putting his mental health over his career, along with feeling ashamed for his current mental state. Not only is it absolutely heartbreaking that Kid Cudi felt the need to introduce his current mental health in such an apologetic manner, but it automatically sheds light on how society treats thoughts of depression. There's a stigma that depression is a burden, or even considered to not even be real. These notions are way too common in today's society to be ignored and is the reason that Kid Cudi felt the need to be apologetic about getting help to strengthen his wellbeing. No one should ever feel the need to apologize for putting themselves first; before others and their own career. It is definitely time that society as a whole accepts depression for what it is; not something merely made up, but an actual chemical imbalance. More specifically, depression is the end product of a lack of the chemical serotonin in the brain. It should be treated as nothing less.

There is nothing selfish about Kid Cudi putting his mental health first, and having to take a break from his career. If anything, within the announcement he released via social media, Kid Cudi still felt the need to mention that he hopes to still perform at Complexcon, as well as not being able to personally promote his album. Even when he should be putting himself first, he still felt the need to mention the needs of his fans. Kid Cudi deserves to finally be at peace, and deserves to enjoy the making the music he creates for his fans.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
