5 tips to de-stress as exams approach

It is about that time again, we are halfway through the school year and the school workload is getting heavier and heavier. Nowadays, it seems like all we think about is balancing school, work and a social life, but in the midst of it all we forget about one thing that should always top that list: our mental health.

There are many healthy ways to help you de-stress your life as exams approach, choose what works best for you, and try incorprating that in your everyday routine.

1. Take a nap

It seems almost impossible to get good rest when your professors keep piling assignments and exams on you. Although napping does have a stigma of being lazy, I'd like to think that a quick snooze in the middle of the day never hurt anyone. Not only is it a great way to rest your brain from all the information you have been cramming into it, but getting some rest is important for your body, physically and mentally.

2. Exercise

Unless you are a total exercise junkie, this one might not sound so appealing. Although I will say, from personal experience, that exercising is a great way to clear your mind and give you a nice little confidence boost as you go on and face those exams. Go to the gym, go on a jog, do some yoga, even the shortest workout will give you a sense of accomplishment.

3. Organize

Planners and to-do lists have taken over my life. Now a days, I can’t go a day without writing everything I have to do in my planner. If you have a lot going on, writing it down somewhere where you can go back and check it is a great habit to acquire. Staying organized is definitely something that has made my busy weeks flow more smoothly.

4. Find at least one good moment in every day

Have you heard of the saying “Was it a bad day or a bad five minutes that you milked all day?” Don’t go about your day milking those bad five minutes that you had. Instead, find a good moment and milk it all day. Stay positive and be grateful for all the amazing things that life has to offer.

5. Have some 'me' time

Listen to music, go on a walk, read a book (for fun), go to a coffee shop — by yourself. For some, the thought of being alone in a public space makes them want to cringe. For others, it is their favorite thing to do. Spending time with yourself and loving every second of it is a great way to disconnect and recharge. Reflect on your day, set some goals, and make a plan to accomplish them.

Love yourself, be kind to your mind and don’t let these exams get the best of you. A friend once told me, “It is a bad exam, not a bad life,” and she was right. At that moment, I decided that my mental health and well-being will ALWAYS be at the top of my list.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
