When you are a friend to someone for longer than a year, you can either think of them as a best friend or a friend that can be as close as family. I've had friends that I decided to call them my close cousin, my best brother or sister, and the same age mother or father. Anthony W. Marro stated "Friends may come and go, but family is forever." He wasn't wrong with this statement because friends can become family. I met all these friends that became more than friends, helped me become a trusting person. There are times when friends become enemies, but like Sun Tzu wrote in "The Art of War," "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." Enemies are the haters in our lives to make us feel belittled or vulnerable. Everyone always have those enemies that try and make us feel like we don't deserve to be in this world anymore.

What is the definition of a best friend? Best friends are very special people in your life. They are the first people you think about when you make plans. They are the first people you go to when you need someone to talk to. You will call them up just to talk about nothing, or even the most important things in your life. When you’re sad, they will try their hardest to cheer you up. They give the best hugs in the world. They are the shoulder to cry on, because you know that they truly care about you. In most cases, they would take a bullet for you, because it would be too painful to watch you get hurt. Best friends are the people you can hang out with and be yourself because you know they won't judge you for your strange or weird ways.

There are several different combinations of best friends. Both guy best friends, both girl friends and then the complex guy-girl best friend. If there is any type of friendships I missed, please leave a comment below and I will write a personal one on that type (with research included).

Guy best friends can easily get along with each other because they can talk about girls, sports, movies, music, video games, wrestling and much more. Often times with guy best friends there's the problem of both guys having strong feelings for the same girl causing conflicts. Guy best friends are usually easier to deal with because they don't have to deal with gossip or drama because they can be "straight up" with one other. Guys don't need to "beat around the bush" when it comes to being honest with their "bro" because they know that they can work it out together like brothers.

Girl best friends can be strange in moments. They start off talking about common interest of guys, celebrities, music, movies, clothing, etc.. Some girls have this idea that best friends have to "share" everything, even guys, which doesn't help their friendship because at the end of the day, they hate that the other girl is getting more attention from the guy. Thank goodness! Majority of girl best friends don't do this because it doesn't help anyone, it just gives the guy an "ego boost" because two girls are fighting over him. When girls have problems, they go to their first girl friend for advice because they don't want to handle it alone. When a girl is crying, the best friend is first to say "who am I killing today?" knowing they don't want her crying for anyone. Girl best friends tend to change their friendship from friends to "besties" to BFFs to sisters.

The complex guy-girl best friends are the best friends that everyone thinks are dating but aren't. They are the most protective of each other for everything because they become siblings within moments after realizing they are best friends. Then there are the best friends that become attracted to each other, making it a tad bit harder because neither one of them want to ruin the best friendship they have. They can talk about anything from guy drama, girl gossip, family issues or boy/girlfriend problems. They can talk about it all because they truly care and they would rather say something then stay quiet and alone with some of the issues. People can and will make assumptions, but that is the person you can trust with your entire life with. They can and probably would take a bullet for you.

True best friends can't always be there for you, but they are there for you in your troubling times. Don't expect someone that is exactly like you and has all the same interests, expand your horizon.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
