I've been fortunate enough to be able to cut my hair really short and grow it out very long all within the last seven years. Bangs, bob cut, shoulder length- all styles that I have rocked in the last couple of years. To be honest, my whole family thinksI look best with longer hair, as it compliments my face. And I thought looks didn't matter.
My hair currently is long and flowing, probably with the longest pieces at the center of my back. My room mate had hair only to to her shoulders and swears she's tried everything short of praying and sacrificing food to the hair Gods above to achieve the length of my hair, hair as long as she had when she was in high school. Having long hair that I can "whip back and forth" like Willow Smith in 2011 dramatically proclaimed is great and I can list some great things about having long hair, although there are moments where I threaten to get out the scissors and chop it all off.
Positive
1. Long hair keeps you warm in the winter
2. You can randomly braid long hair wherever and whenever you want- in class, at a doctor's office and even during a class presentation
3. People compliment your hair and you can respond that yes, "I grew it myself"
4. Is someone starring at you? Easy solution- hide behind your hair (no one will notice)
5. No one will mistake you as a boy ( something that had happened when I had short hair)
6. Pony-tails and pony-tail holders become your best friends
7. It naturally flows down my back and I never have to worry about it getting in my face as my bangs come down to my shoulders
8. Who knows of a Disney Princess who has short hair? I've totally reached Disney Princess status
Negative
1. Brushing hair takes hours upon hours. Come on, I have an 8:30 to go to!
2. Tangles upon tangles. "The hairbrush will just stay glued to my hair"
3. Massive shedding. "Is that my hair in a clump on the floor? My bad"
4. Forgetting to bring a pony tail in the hot summer months.
5. People wanting to touch your hair. "I'm a human, not a horse"
6. Shampooing and hair dying can take hours upon hours
7. Split ends- time to get out the scissors and trim every split end I see
I enjoy living with long hair, as the fashion on girls for long hair never goes out of style. And hey, at parties I can totally "whip my hair" as much as my heart desires.
