For the past seven months, there have been endless talks about Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady and his team being "generally aware" that there was misconduct in regards to the handling of footballs in their meeting with the Colts in January.
This debacle is known as the "deflategate" scandal.
Let's be real: the Patriots would have won that game versus the Colts if the game had been played with a brick.
The Goat. By the end of his career, the statement that Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time will only be solidified by his resume. For this reason alone, I am extremely disappointed in the way Roger Goodell has handled this situation. I would expect the integrity of one of the best players in the league to be heavily considered in this situation. Is Brady really at fault here? I don't believe he or anyone from the Patriots conspired to deflate the footballs. Yet Tom Brady is facing a four-game suspension for someone else's lack of preparation. It is disappointing that Goodell is in charge of an organization that lessens the severity of punishments for crimes such as abuse, DUIs, etc. If this is Roger Goodell's way of trying to prove he is not a softy, maybe he really should be fired.
It has been scientifically proven that there is no real advantage to using under-inflated footballs when compared to those normally inflated. There is a deeper issue here. This is not the time for Roger Goodell to feel the need to assert his authority after past mistakes. The Patriots, and specifically Tom Brady, should not have to suffer for the bad blood that Goodell has stirred up amongst the league. There is no concrete evidence against Brady, yet he is used as the scapegoat. I hope Brady takes this case to court and ends up victorious, just as he was in the Super Bowl.
Now that the Patriots are under a microscope, I'm sure this season everyone will make sure that the footballs are precisely inflated within NFL regulations. And if and when the Patriots dominate yet again this season, despite Brady's possible four-game suspension, what does anyone have on the Patriots then? I'm sure the league will try to dig something else up to cause trouble.
The truth of the matter is, you can't stop greatness.
TB12 and the Patriots will come back from this stronger and better than ever. Tom Brady's legacy will not be ruined. At the end of this season, it will only be strengthened because as the GOAT, he will dominate with a vengeance. All of the haters will be proven wrong.
"Everybody hating, we just call them fans, though." Am right I?
