Yes. I'm a girl and I like sports.
I love to watch soccer and hockey. Depending on who's playing, I'll put on an NFL or MLB game. Don't even get me started about college football.
But guys always seem to think I don't know anything about sports and watch just for the eye candy. So, what if I do? What exactly is wrong with that?
Nothing.
I get asked all sorts of questions. "Who's the highest scorer in the NHL right now?" Points or goals? "Goals." Ovechkin. "Points?" Kane, no matter how much I do not like him.
"You only like Manchester because of Ronaldo and Beckham." Actually, I like them for their history. If they were the only reason I liked the team, I wouldn't still be a fan.
Am I the only one that thinks this is insane? Would you ask another guy that? Would you accuse him of just being attracted to Sidney Crosby and that's the sole reason of why you're a fan of the team? I can't tell you how many times I've had to defend my answer to why I enjoy watching Ronaldo play.
Yeah, he's attractive. Doesn't take a scientist to figure that one out. But have you seen the way he plays? I mean, it's nothing compared to Messi. But still. Those two are both amazing and I am able to tell you that because, well, I played the beautiful game for over ten years.
I am so tired of being held to different standards than anyone other guy. They can casually watch the game without anyone caring. I watch a simple baseball game and I'm asked to name all of the teams in the National League. So what makes me any different? Other than you know, human anatomy.
I know the game. I understand the game. I appreciate how amazing the best player is and I can talk with my girls about how attractive they are. So yeah, I can't name everyone on the men's national team, but I can tell you all about Megan Rapinoe and how Abby Wambach is the leading goal scorer in the world.
Just let me watch the game in peace. I mean, you don't watch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show to look for new bras, do you? Didn't think so.
