Easy Ways to Stay Fit in College

As College has now been in session for about two weeks, classes have picked up the pace, students have a ton of work, and it can be stressful to figure out how to handle everything with balance. Even though you might make grand plans in the beginning of the semester to go to the gym every other day, or even just a few times a week, it now seems impossible to fit in to your schedule. As most people know, regular exercise is extremely important as it controls your weight, prevents diseases later in life, and even releases hormones that make you feel good according to Mayo Clinic.

There are some easy ways you can stay fit everyday without having to figure out how to get to the gym if you feel like it's impossible with your busy schedule!.

1. Walk Everywhere

By making the decision to not use the Bus System at your school, and if you have the chance to make it to class on time by walking, this is one of the easiest ways to stay in shape. Even after a big meal on campus, choose to walk around campus for ten minutes, the added weight of your backpack will give you an even better workout without having to get to the gym. Even if you have been at the library all day and can't take looking at your textbook anymore, take a twenty minute break to get some fresh air, give your brain a break, and get your muscles moving.

2. Use a fitness tracker

Even though these might seem overrated or not worth the money, I swear by my Fitbit. Using a fitness tracker helps you stay on track by always showing you how many steps you're walking, how many miles you've gone, flights of stairs taken, and some even track how well you slept. Seeing it on an actual device can keep you more motivated to get all 10,000 steps in for the day, and make you feel a bit more accomplished and productive when you finally reach that goal!

3. ALWAYS take the steps

By choosing to take steps instead of elevators or escalators, you are doing your body a huge favor. Something as simple as this can make a huge difference in the long run. Whether you're at school, or at a mall, make the decision to take the steps if you can't get to the gym anytime soon.

Overall, there are so many extra little actions you can take in your everyday life to make it a bit easier on yourself to stay fit in school. If finding time to get the gym as often as you would like is nearly impossible, making little easy choices everyday can still keep you fit without getting yourself overwhelmed!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
