Ever wonder how you can stay healthy while you are in midst of studying for tests and writing papers? I’m going to share with you some tips on how to achieve this goal.
1. Only eat when you are hungry
Stress snacking is the absolute worst. It can definitely be tempting to buy items such as candy when grocery shopping. However, if you have food such as chips and candy around only eat when you are actually hungry not when you just want to eat something because it seems good.
2. Workout
We all hate working out unless you’re a star Olympian who likes to run marathons. However, for me the best way to relieve stress is to exercise. You can either go on a run (my favorite activity) or workout at your gym, you will fee amazing afterwards.
3. Keep healthy snacks around
If you like to have a snack then eat something that is nutritious. You can absolutely eat kale, apples and, bananas, the foods I eat on a daily basis. However, you can eat a granola bar or almonds as a healthier and quick on-the-go snack. These options are great to take to class with you as well and will help you avoid buying snacks at the local school store
4. Eat breakfast
I used to hate eating breakfast in high school partly because I didn’t have time to eat it. Now it has become my favorite meal. Breakfast is the most important meal out of your entire day. My go to breakfast food is usually a Greek yogurt with fruit and granola.
5. Choose wisely on what you eat at the dining hall
The dining hall has a ton of options that we love but may not be the healthiest. For example, pizza and cookies. Try eating a salad with protein and fruit or once in a while make a sandwich. These are healthier options and will make you feel more energized throughout your day.
6. Drink a lot of water
Instead of drinking juice or soda, reach for water. I usually take my reusable water bottle with me to fill it up a few times a day before class. This helps me from having to buy a water bottle at the school store. You can also add lemons or fruit to your water to make it taste better, it’s delicious! Trust me, you will feel more energized buy just making this minor switch.
7. Eat Protein
This is the most important aspect of your diet. Protein keeps you full and is extremely important to have at least at lunch and dinner.
8. Indulge
You are in college, you are allowed to have fun! Eat desert as often as you can but in a controlled manner and eat dinner with friends!
9. Sleep
This is an area that I need to seriously work on. Sometimes I have to pull all nighters and other times I get 8 hours of sleep. Get enough sleep each night because you will feel more energized and will focus better in all of classes.
Establishing a routine is tough. Trust me, once you start working out everyday it will automatically become a priority in your schedule. Not having “enough time” is an excuse to avoid working out because you want to watch Netflix. I understand and I do the same thing occasionally. Remember you have 24 hours everyday to make the most of it; it’s just a matter of how you want to use your time.
11. Make time for yourself
This is the most important aspect out of my entire health routine and for my overall sanity. Once I’m done classes on Friday I don’t touch anything school related for the evening. Instead I relax and watch Netflix or hangout with friends. This chunk of time you allocate each week will make you feel happy and less stressed about school.
