17 Things My Best Friends Taught Me About Life
Srinidhi Vangala

I have two soulmates as my absolute best friends. Trust me, nothing gets better than this. They are the one I send an SOS to when I am having a minor breakdown or the one I call when I'm craving some type of food. There's no in-between.

In the last 16 years of knowing these two people, my world has toppled over, for the better. They both have seen my worst and best. They've also seen me sparkle and I've seen the pure pride in their eyes just as I do when they accomplish something. We really are quite the trio. They are those type of friends you know you can never forget and the friends that are in every one of my stories. And I've learned these things about life from them. So thank you best friends.

1. Soulmates often come disguised as best friends.

2. If you can't be your messed up self with someone, they don't deserve your sunshine.

3. Don't place your self-worth in anyone's hands but your own.

4. Life is rarely a straight line. So when the curve balls come, learn to groove.

5. You're really just a speck in the entire universe. So stop taking yourself so seriously.

6. Every now and then, let the REALLY bad jokes make you laugh.

7. Life gets pretty drab if you don't have a certain amount of madness going.

8. When the mind gets too crowded, learn to plop your feet up and snooze for a while.

9. Your parents will always be the people you love the most, however much you hate them from time-to-time.

10. Learn to make time for the little things (even if that means a slice of pizza or hot fries).

11. Your attitude determines your results. Every crappy situation just needs a shifting of perspective.

12. If you can't feel it, don't force yourself to.

13. Wait for the best bits of life because what else is tomorrow for?

14. No matter where you are in life, your tribe of friends will always be rooting for you.

15. So don't forget to hoot for them too.

16. Your priorities reflect your choices. Choose who/what makes you feel alive.

17. Your happiness is in your hands. Own up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
