Immediately after that final blow occurs you feel numb. The world almost seems to stop as you replay the final moments. No matter how long the relationship lasted it still feels just as bad. I can tell you for sure that the first night is the worst. Stay away from alcohol, but all those delicious treats you save for special... occasions have at it! Make sure you have some social contact. Call your best friend tell them what happened, as vague or specific as you want. Make sure while they are over you get at least one nice long hug. DO NOT call your "go-to" guy or the jerk that just broke your heart. Honestly just turn your phone off. Netflix and tissues are your best friend. If you are a girl like me and feel even worse crying at seemingly nothing, put on a sappy movie (my favorite is the notebook). If you are all cried out put on the trashiest TV show you can stand (for example Keeping up with the Kardashians or Vampire Diaries). Eat junk, watch Netflix, cry and let it out. Don't force sleep, but try to get a few hours. If you need to take a mental health day, do it! Pamper yourself, go outside and soak up some sunshine. Again the first night is the worst. It gets easier every day.
Take baby steps at your own pace, and do not be afraid to tell your friends no. They mean well but only you can tell when you're ready. Though a good mood and confidence booster is to download tinder or any popular online dating app/site! These will make you laugh so hard, feel beautiful, maybe even a little creeped out, but it will remind you that there are plenty of fish in the sea (also a online dating site). Make sure you reconnect with friends, because we all know they get neglected sometimes when you are in a relationship. These girls (or guys) will be your rock. I remember going out on valentines day with all of my recently dumped and single friends and it was one of the best nights of my life and a huge leap forward in the healing process!
Let's face it getting dumped sucks. The thing these dumpers do not understand though is that they will be the ones regretting their actions in the long run. Mark my words there will be a day weeks years or even decades from now when that jerk will look back at the infamous day and regret every decision he made. Trust me I know from experience :)
No matter what, know that you only have to get it right once. We kiss a lot of frogs before we get out prince, but hey they eventually lead to funny party stories! The most important thing you need to take from all of this is that you are BEAUTIFUL, WORTH IT, A CATCH, AND IN NO WAY DAMAGED GOODS! One day you will wake up and he will not be your first thought. Take it from a girl that's no stranger to being dumped..... hard!
