Finally, school's out and summer is here! However, no matter how many fun ideas you have planned, three months of no responsibilities is a long time; there will be days when you are laying on your couch wondering, "What am I going to do today?" It's nice to be home, but you feel like you have done it all. And let's be honest, as college students, there is no way we can afford a lot of the summer plans we want. So here are a few ideas for those days you're not sure quite what to do:
1. Explore your city alone
I'm sure you have walked around your town a thousand times, however, have you ever done it alone? Walking around alone allows you to focus more on your surroundings. You may find a cool shop you have never noticed before, or simply take in the scenery. Either way, it will give you a new perspective on a place you thought you knew a lot about.
2. Have a family day
Go putt putt golfing, or to the beach! Do something as a whole family, because as we all get older, we all get busier, so it's nice to spend some quality time together. Your parents would really appreciate it as well.
3. Find a new hobby
Try something new! Attend a painting class or kickboxing lessons; if there is anything you've always wanted to try, you might as well start now! Make a bucket list of new things you want to try and pick a few of them for this summer. You never know, you may find your next passion.
4. Go garage sale hopping
Grab a few friends and drive around town, stopping at all the garage sales you see. Summer is full of them! You can look for dorm decorations, cheap DIY projects, you never know! You may end up finding something really cool.
5. Visit an animal shelter
They have animals who would love to play with you... enough said.
6. Start a summer project
Starting a summer project would not only keep you busy but be rewarding when you finish it. You could start a garden, make a piece of furniture for your room, or start a blog. Whatever interests you!
7. Plan a road trip
You have three months without homework, might as well go on a trip! Take some friends and drive to the next state over or across the country. Start looking up "America's best..." hiking spots, sports areas, even restaurants and lists will pop right up. Pick a few places that seem fun and go explore! Traveling is hard to fit in with school and work so you might as well take advantage in the summer.
8. Game night
Invite some friend and family over and play games. It will be fun to hang out with everyone, and we all like some good, healthy competition. Board games, sports games, card games, guys versus girls, older versus younger; whatever you do, it will be fun just to hang out!
