6 Thoughts Every Student Has At The Beginning Of The Semester

As spring semester is just beginning, every college student is going to share a few similar thoughts. These thoughts are almost like New Year’s resolutions, in the sense that they are things we want to do better or differently. No matter what year you’re in or what semester you’re starting, these thoughts are bound to pop up at one time or another.

1. I’m going to write every assignment and appointment in my planner this semester!

We all want to get organized, and planners are really useful tools. While we may start the semester off strong writing every assignment and appointment, after a few weeks, our planners are probably going to get lost somewhere in our rooms.

2. I’m going to keep my room spotless.

After we finally unpack all of our stuff after moving back in from winter break, we make it a goal to keep our rooms clean and full of clutter. This is probably only going to last until the first weekend of the semester. Don’t get down on yourself...it happens to everyone.

3. I’m getting a 4.0 this semester!

We all tell ourselves this at least once or twice throughout the new semester. While it’s a reasonable goal for some, it’s important to remember that your intelligence is so much more than a number.

4. I’m going to the gym every day … I swear.

Let’s be honest, you probably won’t get there every day. School gets busy, and it gets busy fast. While we may have the motivation to go to the gym every day, some days, we just don’t have the time to fit a solid workout into an already crammed day of classes, work, homework, and other social engagements.

5. I’m going to get a job!

Getting a job on (or off) campus can often be a lot harder than you may imagine. Between the hundreds of other college students applying for the same job, and the potential lack of transportation to said job, actually getting a job can be a lot harder than you may imagine.

6. I’m going to go out less ... I need to take more time for yourself and to relax.

The first weekend rolls around and you see your roommates and best friends getting dressed up and made up to go out, and you’re sitting in your bed. The FOMO (fear of missing out) strikes. You hop out of bed and get dressed. You can’t miss a killer weekend with your best friends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
