Anyone who has gone to college or is in college right now knows what it's like to live with roommates. They can be the greatest or, honestly, the absolute worst. Whether you love 'em or you hate 'em, though, you're still living with other people, which can be tough. There comes a time once in a while, however, when you find yourself all alone, no roommates in sight. At first you can't believe it: what will you do? You're all alone and being alone is the worst. Then you realize you can do anything -- the possibilities are endless.
1. Stay in Bed All Day
I love my roommates, I really do, but sometimes I don't want to go on a crazy adventure -- I just want to sit in bed all damn day. There isn't a better day than one where you don't get out of your pajamas. If I didn't have someone forcing me to get up and do something, I could stay holed up in my covers for days on end. So when your roommates are gone, take advantage of this. The opportunity to be the ultimate sloth only comes around once in awhile.
2. Take Long Showers
If you're like me, then you do some of your best thinking -- and let's be honest, singing -- in the shower. But it's hard to really get into that groove when you have to worry about things like having enough hot water, or the fact that your roommates are impatiently waiting and whether you will have time for your primping. But when your roommates are away -- watch out! Just let someone try and stop you from taking an hour long shower and belting out your favorites.
3. Watch Netflix Out Loud
When you have roommates, someone is always studying or doing homework, so if you want to avoid dirty passive-aggressive looks, you put those earphones in. But after a while, your ears just need to breathe. And you can't really get the full effect of what you're watching with earphones in. So when my roommates are away, I will watch my shows as loudly and obnoxiously as I want.
4. Eat Total Garbage
When you're not getting out of bed and not leaving the building, you can pretty much guarantee that you won't be eating right. But the bright side is that no one will judge you for eating an entire bag of Hershey Kisses or surviving on microwave popcorn and cereal alone. You are free to make all of the bad food decisions you want. And besides, we all know the old adage: if no one is there to watch you eat it, did it really count?
5. Listening To Your Guilty Pleasure Playlist Without Judgement
This one, I have to say, is my favorite. My roommates are real troopers. They have to put up with a lot from me, Including an endless playlist of Disney music. So when they're not around, I can let loose. Turn that music up, belt out those high notes and dance like no one's watching, because no one is (well except that guy in the building directly across from yours)!
Although we may revel and celebrate in our alone-ness in the beginning, after a while it can get, well, lonely. We all need our space once in a while, but really the greatest thing about your roommates being away is when they come back. You realize how much you missed them and that they're more than just that person who sleeps next to you.
