20 Reasons I'm Nostalgic About My Childhood

I don't know about anyone else, but personally I miss my childhood. You know, that great time when your only worries were trying to successfully pass notes during class and figuring out which jean mini skirt looked best with your Abercrombie top. I am in no way denying the fact that my childhood was one big awkward stage (a bob haircut and a lot of headbands), but honestly I'd take the awkward looks any day just to go back to a stress free time.

As a second semester junior in college, stress and I have become quite acquainted. Between cramming for midterms at the library and trying to balance schoolwork, sleep, and social activities I am basically one big walking migraine and this was never the case when I was younger. Childhood allows you to remain carefree; you always think that everything will end up working out. No problem is really all that big when you're little and I just can't help but feel nostalgic about a time like that.

People weren't nearly as judgmental or critical back then and as a child, children can basically do no wrong. Maybe I just miss being able to get away with things, but regardless there are many reasons that I miss my childhood.

1. You could wear the same outfits multiple times a week and blame your mom for picking them out.

2. Your workouts consisted of gym class and after-school sports.

3. Your gym classes consisted of gymnastics units, hopscotch and games involving scooters.

4. You got recess all throughout elementary school.

5. Your mom would pack you a homemade lunch every day.

6. You never had to worry about money because the things you wanted were always under $20.

7. You could get away with doing mischievous things because it was "cute" when you were little.

8. Your Halloween costumes either consisted of evil witches or pretty princesses.

9. You had no clue what alcohol was and everyone was just high on life.

10. You had more energy than you knew what to do with and all you ever wanted to do was play games.

11. You actually received a full eight hours of sleep on a daily basis.

12. No one had cell phones and you never had to worry about why he or she wasn't texting you back.

13. Your dream career was a princess or a firefighter and you were convinced that was what you were really going to be.

14. You never had to worry about getting a job and if you were lucky you'd even get an allowance.

15. Birthday parties were held at places such as "Chuck E Cheese" where you got to play as many games as you desired.

16. It was socially acceptable to bowl with bumper lanes.

17. Boys and girls still had cooties and only interacted when chasing each other around the playground.

18. You were entertained by the smallest things, such as playing "hot lava" at a park.

19. You looked forward to the nights that you got McDonald's for dinner because that meant you would get a Happy Meal toy.

20. You didn't have a care in the world and were happy all the time.

I know that children always wish to grow up; they always talk about how much cooler it would be to be an adult, but I can honestly say that I'd give anything to be a kid again. Times were much simpler and stress-free and let's face it, regardless of the awkward stage (which I'm not even sure if I'm out of yet) kids are pretty darn cute.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
