It seems as if Netflix is taking over the world (at least my world). It’s the last thing I see before I shut my eyes and go to bed. It’s there when I wake up. It knows me better than I know myself sometimes, as it suggests TV shows and movies that I later fall in love with. It once started as a way to get DVDs sent to your door (remember those things?), but it's now my favorite streaming website. It’s my go-to procrastinator, as I watch an episode of my favorite show between study breaks. Although somehow it always turns into a three-hour study break because those fifteen seconds Netflix gives me to decide if I’ll continue to the next episode are too short. How can I make up my mind in fifteen seconds? Somehow, Netflix always wins over studying. With spring semester in full swing, I thought I would share some top television shows to binge-watch instead of studying. You’ll thank me later (although your grades might not).

In no particular order, pick your poison:

1. "90210"

No, not the hit 90’s show, I’m talking about the reinvented show from 2008. It has five glorious seasons, filled with drama, sex, friendship, romance, backstabbing and amazing shots of the greater Los Angeles area. Although I don’t love season one (you could probably skip it), seasons two through five are great. You’ll fall in love with Naomi’s bitchy-ness, Silver’s creativity, Liam’s hotness, Annie’s personality, Navid’s kindess, Dixon’s loyalty, Adrianna’s voice and so much more. If you liked "The O.C." or "Gossip Girl," you'll love "90210."

2. "Gossip Girl"

Before there was the new "90210," there was everyone’s favorite blogger on the Upper East Side. Scandal, sex, drama, romance and fashion are all what made this show a hit. You’ll grow to love the bad boys, get your heart broken when your favorite couple breaks up, be in awe of New York’s beauty and loathe certain characters (Vanessa, must I say more?). You’ll wish you’re as witty as Blair, as fashion-forward as Serena, have a boyfriend like Nate and hope to vacation in the Hamptons. You’ll be dying to know who gossip girl is so ignore any spoilers for the big reveal. Also, listen to the songs played in the show and add them on Spotify. Now.

3. "Gilmore Girls"

While some had already added "Gilmore Girls" to their binge-watching collection, I had never heard of the show. It took a lot of convincing to get me to start watching the hit 2000s show, but I’m so thankful I started watching it. Although the plot didn’t catch my attention (it’s about a single mother and her daughter who live in a small, quirky town in Connecticut) the characters are great. I wish I had Lorelei’s wit and will, Rory’s intelligence (and her boyfriends. She got to date Dean and Jess), Luke’s sarcasm and much more. I’m a city girl, but the fictional town of Stars Hollow often makes me wish I lived in a small town on the East Coast. This show is relatable, funny and honest.

4. "The O.C."

"The O.C." is the original "Gossip Girl" (fun fact, it’s by the same creators). Fall in love with the nerd (Seth Cohen), loathe the main girl, celebrate Christmakah and appreciate Summer Roberts. Feel free to laugh at early 2000s fashion, understand the “Mmm Whatcha Say” meme on a new level, and be prepared to have Rooney on repeat. If you love the show, be prepared for a rough season three and four, but enjoy the dramatic seasons one and two. "Welcome to the O.C., b*tch." (Available on the CWSeed.com for free – all four seasons).

5. "Friends"

Please tell me you’ve seen at least one episode of "Friends." It’s home of the six best friends anyone could have, it's placed in New York City, and features a lot of coffee from Central Perk. It’s full of funny jokes, acting techniques (“smell the fart”) and quotable lines (“moo point. It’s like a cow’s opinion, it’s moo”). Watch all ten seasons, then repeat.

6. "New Girl"

“Who’s that girl? Who’s that girl? It’s Jess!” I can honestly say I love all of the roommates, especially Schmitt (mostly fat Schmitt) and Nick. Jess is relatable, awkward and quirky, and she's the only female roommate. She lives with three boys, Nick, Schmitt and Winston (Winnie). The show is incredibly funny, and it's relatable if you have roommates. Especially the part where Jess cries while listening to Taylor Swift and eats ice cream. It’s a great show for a study break and a good laugh.

7. "Boy Meets World"

It’s not readably available online, but reruns are always playing on ABC Family and MTV. Get nostalgic for 90’s fashion (oversized clothes, scrunchies, and flannels) and humor. Root for Corey and Topanga, wish for your own Shawn Hunter and get life advice from Feeny while making the Feeny call. I don’t love season one, but seasons three, four and five are great.

8. "Full House"

With Netflix’s spin off of "Fuller House" right around the corner, catch up on the original show. While this isn’t available online, there are always late-night reruns on Nickelodeon. It’s great for all ages (wow I sound like I’m advertising an amusement park), and it's a great show to watch in your free time. You’ll get to see the Olsen twins as babies, see the voice of Aladdin (Steve) and pray for Uncle Jesse to get rid of his mullet. It’ll make you want to visit the Pink Ladies in San Francisco and will, like "Boy Meets World," remind you of the greatest fashion trends of the 90’s.

9. "Orange is the New Black"

The plot doesn’t sound great, I know. It’s about an all-women’s prison, but it’s not really about that. It’s more about the characters and their relationships with one another. There’s a lot of humor, scheming, some romance and a whole lot of amazing characters. You’ll love them all, even Red, but especially Crazy Eyes (chocolate and vanilla swirl, swirl), Pussy (pronounced Puss-ay) and Sophia. Although the setting is prison, that’s not the main focus. Appreciate the great writing and character development while watching the show. New season comes out in June on Netflix.

10. "Freaks and Geeks"

There’s only one season of this cult classic, but there’s over ten episodes that are each forty minutes in length. The “freaks” are referred to as the stoners, while the “geeks” are the nerds. This is one of James Franco’s first projects, and it includes other notable stars such as Seth Rogan and Jason Segel. It’s set in the 80’s, and it's filled with Sam Weir’s iconic facial expressions, a very stoned Franco and one great army jacket.

11. "My Mad Fat Diary"

If you’re from outside of England, you’ve probably never heard of it. I hadn’t until I was browsing the Internet and found a GIF of the gorgeous Nico Miralegro. There’s three seasons, but the first two only have six episodes, and the third has three –– so it’s basically one season in U.S. terms. It’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in terms of realism and character development. It’s a story about Rae, who just got released from a mental hospital and returns home and makes new friends in the early 90’s. She suffers from binge eating, anxiety, depression, self-harm and has body issues. She’s a music fanatic, funny, honest and someone that I think all audiences will learn from and relate to. The show isn’t on Netflix, but they’re all on Youtube. If you love 90’s music, you’ll be happy to know that there is plenty of Beastie Boys, Oasis and The Cure to go around.

12. "Skins" (seasons 1 and 2)

This is another British show, but you may have heard of it because it’s on Netflix. Although there are more than two seasons, the characters get switched out, almost like a revamp of the show so I stopped after season two. It features notable actors, such as Dev Pantel ("Slum Dog Millionaire," anyone?), Hannah Murray ("Game of Thrones") and Nicholas Hoult ("Warm Bodies" and "X-Men"). It’s a story of teenagers living outside of England who are often getting into trouble. There’s at least one character someone can relate to, whether it’s Cassie who has an ED and says “oh wow” a lot, Tony who’s sort of an asshole, Effie who schemes or Sid. Each episode features a different character and his/her story, but the overall story is interwoven with the diverse story lines.

12. "Jane the Virgin"

A show I never thought I would watch, yet it got me hooked after the first episode. When a woman gets accidentally inseminated, she has to choose to keep the baby or not and get in touch with the father. There's romance, drama, murder and one very cute Rafael Solano. It's an Americanize telenovela (soap opera) that focuses on single moms, choosing between two cute guys and a lot of humor. You'll get hooked quickly and will fall in love with the narrator.

Although school is important, so is Netflix. Forget about your responsibilities and watch one (or all) of these shows!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
