8 Shows To Binge Watch This Semester

It's almost time for midterms, which means its time to pull out the Netflix and wine and prepare to procrastinate until you just can't procrastinate no more. So, here are 10 shows that you need to binge this semester.

1. Empire (On Air, 16 episodes, 720 minutes )

Currently one of the biggest television sensations, Empire draws you in with the first episode. It is a mix of family drama, great music, betrayal, and a slight Shakespearian undertone. Centering around a CEO of a music entertainment company and his family, all the actors give outstanding and honest performances. Every episode leaves you wanting more, making it the perfect way to forget about the 5 page paper due Friday.

2. Narcos (Netflix, 10 episodes, 500 minutes)

Narcos manages to retell a gritty true story in compelling one hour segments. It's a non-fiction plot that reads like a major motion picture. The show manages to cover dark topics without becoming a CNN special. Additionally, one of my favorite aspects is how the show utilizes Spanish rather than attempting to recreate events that would have taken place in Spanish for an English-speaking audience. Even though it is produced by Netflix, its high production quality and riveting performances rival that of HBO and Showtime. And, it stars Pedro Pascal and he's hot as hell.

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Ended, 144 episodes, 6,336 minutes)

An oldie but a goodie, Buffy provides 7 seasons of campy but exciting adventure and lots and lots of vampires. Although it is slightly outdated, Buffy manages to touch on some of the most universal issues humans face and uses interesting metaphors to explore the human condition, while masquerading as a show about a ditzy teenaged girl who fights the undead. Plus, Buffy is a badass and a feminist icon.

4. Gilmore Girls (No longer running, 153 episodes, 7,065 minutes)

This is a staple for any teenaged girl anywhere. Okay, maybe it's not the best show ever made; the jokes are cheesy, the acting is subpar, and don't even get me started on the whole eating thing (the amount of food I have seen WASTED on that show). But there is no denying that it has an inexplicable charm that makes you want to drop everything and move to a quaint Connecticut town to open an inn with pre-bridesmaids Melissa McCarthy. Additionally, the over-the-top fall and winter sets are perfect for preparing for the oncoming winter.

5. Bloodline (Netflix, 13 episodes, 650 minutes)

Bloodline is twisted and awesome. It focuses on a wealthy family with a dark secret that begins to be revealed when their estranged brother returns to the Keys. The characters are complex and compelling; you never know who you can trust, who's telling the truth, or even who to like. Furthermore, even though the characters have questionable morals and the plot is dark and depraved, you still find yourself relating to it, and even finding compassion for those you might not expect.

6. Don't Trust the B-- In Apartment 23 (Cancelled, 26 episodes, 572 minutes)

A lot of people give me sh*t for this one, and I admit at first I too was skeptical. However, if you can get past the stupid title and the cheesy promotional shots, the show is actually incredibly witty and trenchant with entertaining performances on all fronts. The show makes fun of the overplayed down-on-their-luck, young professionals story line (think Two Broke Girls or Friends) by centering around a sociopathic party girl who is forced to accept a sanctimonious Midwesterner as a roommate. It also features James Van Der Beek (played by himself), a washed-up television actor with too much money and too much time.

7. Peaky Blinders (Netflix, 12 episodes, 720 minutes)

Another Netflix original, Peaky Blinders is a period drama that tracks the rise of a small gang in turn of the century Birmingham, England. Cillian Murphy is superb as the calculating head of the Shelby family who strategically maneuvers his way through corrupt cops, rival gangs, and family drama in an attempt to put his family on top.

8. Arrested Development (No Longer Running, 68 episodes, ~2,040 minutes)

Although I wasn't personally a fan of the Netflix-produced fourth season, Arrested Development is probably one of my favorite shows. The Bluth family redefines dysfunctional, and every character is hilarious. Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Alia Shawkat, Jessica Walter and more all deliver raucously funny performances and never miss a beat. The show is smart, poignant, and irreverent to no end.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
