Stress is something most people experience regularly and can be caused by a number of things. Whether yours is caused by self-esteem issues, work, school, etc, you'll be stressed and your mood will be brought down. No matter the cause, everyone needs a way to relieve their stress. Here are 10 tips to make yourself feel better when you feel like you've been kicked down.
1. Go outside
Enjoy the fresh air. Sit under a tree and read a book. Cloud/stair gaze. You're bound to feel relieved while enjoying nature.
2. Put on your favorite outfit
Even if you aren't going anywhere, dress yourself up. Practice your makeup routine. If you don't wear makeup, that's okay. Just put something on that you makes you feel hot.
3. Hang out with friends
Get some friends together and go to the movies or hit the mall and laugh until you have a 6 pack of abs. Hanging out with your friends should show you that your lucky to have awesome people in your life. Being with people you love should always brighten your day.
4. Write in a journal
Write how you feel in pen. Typing it out can work, but writing it is raw. If you write in pen, you can't erase what you've done and that only proves that you are human. If you're angry/upset and don't want to write, just scribble on the page as hard as you can.
5. Go to a pet shelter
Animals are cute and fun. Does this need an explanation?
6. Cry
If you need to cry and scream, by all means go right ahead. Grab a pillow or stuffed animal and you wail as much as you need. When you're done, you can even treat yourself to a nap.
7. Talk about your feelings
Find someone you trust that won't be judgmental and will listen to you. If you want them to give advice, tell them how you feel and then let them have their turn to speak. Expressing your feelings aloud is called "getting something off your chest" for a reason. It's relieving to put your feelings out in the air and address them.
8. Watch your favorite movie
Watch it alone or with your favorite person. Your favorite movie will always make you happy.
9. Color/draw/paint
Being artsy is fun and will give you something to do with your hands so your mind won't be fixed on your issues. Your stress levels should decrease so when you're down coloring in the last detail, address your issues in a more calm manner.
10. Exercise
Don't go insane on the treadmill if you don't work out regularly, but walk at a steady pace and gradually work up to a light jog, then eventually up to a run. If you do this and other work outs on a regular basis, you'll lose weight and you'll feel better all around.
