If you attend Francis Marion University (FMU) there are a few facts that only you would know. Whether you are a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, super senior or alumni, you can relate to all of these items on this list, from the massive cat population to the fantastic Grille quesadillas.
1. You know what the abbreviations : LSF, UC, FH, and CEMC mean.
They are abbreviations for our buildings. If someone tells you that they will meet you after their class in FH in the UC, you know that they had a English, Political Science or History class in Founder's Hall, and they'll meet you in the University Center. Other people would think you were talking gibberish.
2. Speaking of the UC, you know it will always smell of chlorine.
This would be because of the indoor pool inside the UC. Whether you're in the gym or the bookstore, you can still smell a slight scent of chlorine.
3. People think you go to a Catholic school.
As lead by popular belief, just because Francis is in the name of your school doesn't make it a Catholic school. Fun fact: we are named after a Revolutionary War hero, also called the "Swamp Fox."
4. Since we are named after a Revolutionary War hero, naturally our school colors are red, white and blue.
'Merica and patriotism all day everyday! Our mascot is even the Patriot, yes like the Mel Gibson movie!
5. But cats and squirrels should be our mascot.
They both are everywhere, and neither have any fear.
6. You were extremely upset when The Grille took away quesadillas.
Yet you did a happy dance when enough people complained and brought them back!
7. You were way too excited when Starbucks and Subway opened on campus thanks to Airmark!
Those freshmen don't know how lucky they are to have actual brand name restaurants on campus.
8. When it rains, it pours.
That's not just a saying; you'll need an ark.
9. We don't have a football team.
So we're undefeated in football, our tuition is cheaper and we beat the Gamecocks in baseball.
10. You know that you'll get your exercise for the week getting to your math class on the third or fourth floor of LSF.
No need to go to gym for the week, especially if you have 10 minutes or less to get to your math class from FH!
**Bonus** You love being a patriot!
No matter what anyone says, you love your school, you love the one on one with your professors and always seeing a friendly face on the way to class. Though we may be a small school we make up for it with hospitality! So wear that red, white and blue and always cheer on our patriots!
