10 things I miss while studying abroad

I have been away from home for three weeks now and it is crazy to think that I'm on the other side of the world. There are some things from the states that I miss dearly.

1. My family

This is an obvious one. I'm 5,000 miles from home and this is the farthest away I have been! I won't even be home for Thanksgiving. I know they are proud but I miss them a lot

2. Ranch dressing

I don't even like ranch dressing but the fact that they don't offer it here in the United Kingdom is mind blowing to me.

3. Free ketchup

Why am I paying for a basic human necessity????

4. My sorority sisters

Recruitment, Bid Day, new sisters; I've missed it all. My go to lunch buddies are on the other side of the world! They better be prepared for many lunch dates when I return.

5. Saturday Football

Yes, I get Saturday futbol here but I want real football! I miss cheering on the Lakers on Saturday nights in Lubbers Stadium

6. Late Night campus food

All on campus dining locations close by 9. Where are you supposed to go and get food after class?

7. Post season baseball

Baseball is my favorite sport, so it's really sad that I'm missing out on October baseball!

8. Textbooks

None of my classes require textbooks. I don't miss paying for them, I just miss having them available when you need them.

9. Cars

People in the UK mostly travel by bus and train. If they do travel by car they are driving on the wrong side of the road, compared to what I'm used to.

10. GVSU

It's my home away from home. My friends are there. My student organizations are there. The only thing that's missing is me

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
