When you study abroad, it is important to try new things and have new experiences. However, there are inevitably some comforts of home that you will miss while abroad. Just remember that the semester is only four months! In the meantime, here are six things that you probably miss from home. While this list is not comprehensive (I also miss Cool Ranch Doritos) these are some of the most common complaints I hear from Americans who are abroad.
Peanut butter.
There is a serious lack of peanut butter in Europe. My advice would be that if you are going to be seriously missing it, bring a jar of it in your suitcase for a special treat.
Coffee ( like we are used to).
Yes, there may be the occasional Starbucks or American coffee chain in a big city, but for the most part, Europeans drink espresso, which comes in a much smaller cup and is sometimes mixed with milk. This usually does not come with a lid, as you are meant to stay in the café and enjoy your day. This is definitely something that I have had to get used to
Tampons.
Of course there are tampons, but they usually have no applicators.
Netflix (like it is in America).
If your country has Netflix that you can easily connect to, you are lucky. Oftentimes there will be Netflix with a much smaller selection.
Gluten-free or other food substitute options.
Of course, every country is different. However in America, we are used to easily finding, gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan and paleo versions of nearly everything, or a convenient way of making it with US ingredients.
Chipotle.
Even with the recent E. Coli breakout. Enough said.
