Sometimes, keeping yourself happy can be challenging. Personally, I know that it's especially hard to be happy when dealing with things such as anxiety and depression. My anxiety and depression challenge me almost every day to keep a happy smile on my face. Luckily, there are a lot of simple things to do in order to boost your happiness, and I have compiled them in a list below.
1. Spend some time with furry friends
Studies have shown that pets and animals genuinely make humans feel more content and at ease.
2. Meditate
I know it may sound crazy, but just sitting alone in silence can help your mood. I'm not saying you have to do that whole thing where you cross your legs, put your hands on your knees and pretend you're in a yoga class. But, it's beneficial to clear your mind and think positive thoughts.
3. Listen to music
Listening to music always helps lift my spirits. There's just something about music that is so therapeutic to me. And, there really is nothing like a solo jam-session.
4. Watch a funny video on YouTube
It is kind of embarrassing how many times "funny cat videos" would show up on my YouTube history list.
5. Hit the gym
For me, going to the gym and working out is a great way to relieve stress and anger. I find myself having some of the best workouts when I'm feeling down.
6. Take a long bath or shower
Break out those bath bombs, get your Bluetooth speaker, and relax. Your skin may turn wrinkly at the end, but it's so worth it.
7. Have a good cry
Yes, crying can actually make you feel better, believe it or not. Even though it may be counterintuitive, but just getting out all those emotions leaves you feeling refreshed.
8. Go shopping
This one is my personal favorite because there is nothing better than a little (or a lot) retail therapy. Spend time and money on yourself because you deserve it.
9. Keep yourself busy
Instead of sitting in your bed, moping, eating ice cream, and watching Netflix all day, get up and do something. Plan out a whole day, or a couple of days, where your schedule is jam packed. Keeping yourself busy will distract you from all the negativity in your life.
10. Go on a long drive
Going on a long drive is a great way to clear your head. Even if there is not a destination in mind, the adventure will clear your mind of all things negative.
Being happy is essential to living life to the fullest. While a sense of happiness is defined by each individual, examining how to be happy varies from person to person.
