The world is not out to get you..
Even though shark week came early, you’re wearing white pants and you’re in the middle of a workday without a tampon in sight. Take a deep breath, ask a friend for a pad, and calmly walk towards the bathroom carrying a folder that directly covers any hint of red.
You may be having the worst morning ever, but the world isn’t going after you in particular. Just remember that at least 60% of the would is having a bad day, moment, year, month, what ever right along side of you. Misery loves company as they say. Take a moment while your cleaning up mother natures gift to remember all the good things that have happened. It may take a minute or two to remember, but start by looking for small things. The flowers out side your house started blooming today, your boss gave you a thumbs up on your idea, or maybe it’s a rainy day and you’re a pluviophile like me. I know some days are so much worst then others, but those days help us value the good days even more.
Maybe the only thing we need to change is to look at it a different way. I just finished the movie About Time and I love his ending statement , “I am going to live each day as if I specifically came back in time to live this one moment,” Richard Curtis portrayed this reality well. You can change your day around, all you have to do is make your mind up to do so. Need some inspiration? I highly recommend the movie "About Time". It does have a few racy moments, but the story line and acting is amazing, including Plus a former Harry Potter actor. I’ll leave that to you to figure out who it is. Google is cheating.
Your Hogwarts letter is not coming.
No one is going to save you from your life. So you gotta do it and you can! I promise. Harry got a letter and a harry wizard to save him from his life. You have a pamphlet and me, sorry not as exciting I know but honestly you don’t need much to change your life around. It doesn’t matter where you are in life. You could be in debt, living pay check to pay check at a dead end job, and you can still change that all around. Start by realizing that your past is irrelevant. No matter what shit you went through, it can’t hold you back. You need to set aside the attitude of “I’m a failure” or “Nothing I do is ever good enough” and pick up the thought process of “I can do anything” along with “No one can stand in my way or tare me down”.
The way to start? First write down on a piece of paper everything that you are afraid of. Take a good long look at it, then promptly tear it up and burn it. Remember what Teddy Roosevelt said about fear, “The only thing to fear is fear itself” he wasn’t just joking around. Fear is your biggest enemy, it can bring you down when you are high and hold you back from ever reaching out for something better. So in some way symbolically prove that you are not afraid and who knows, you might just believe it.
Maybe you are afraid of change. In other words, “Better the devil you know then the one you don’t.” I don’t know who originally said that, but I personally think they’re stupid. There will always be new problems (or enemies to face) we cant avoid that by trying not to change. Worse things will always come your way but that’s not what’s important. What’s important is how you face them. Will you run in fear or stand up (knees shaking) and say (with a shaky voice) “I may win or I may loose, but either way I will fight for my freedom and my future. Come what may I will fight for what is rightfully mine and you don’t scare me!” Big words I know, but the more you say them the more your brain will believe them.
Courage is not a prize you get for participation. Courage is something you have to strive for (or pray for if you are willing) and keep striving for, because like a sword, if you do not use it, it will rust. So stand up to your incompetent boss, say enough from that abusive relationship, sell everything you own (everything that is holding you down), and go find your Hogwarts. Go find the place that will better your life and better yourself! I have faith in you, you can do anything you set your mind to and its about damn time that someone told you that.
