During this holiday break, people have a little extra time on their hands to go out and do entertaining things to get reunited with family and friends from home. This tends to lead to a lot of people in places that may be a little out of their comfort zone. This causes guys to go out of their way to get thoughtful gifts, and an even better time for girls to start acting like they’re into things like NBA or NHL events. Even NFL football and college bowl games bring about a slight change in demographics in the arena.
I live for sports, but before this passion came about, I was a prime example of this kind of “sports fan.” I too, was guilty of these basic girl tendencies, dating all the way back to my early high school years. I have lived through these situations myself and have learned from those experiences. There are plenty of reasons to enjoy a sporting event. For those good-looking girls you see in the stands, or at the bar with her eyes on the TV screen; they’re probably there for a friend’s game, their favorite university or professional team, and the reasoning could be very legitimate! Although, for those cute girls who may not find sports all that cool, they may have to find their way around being interested in sports and still try and get the athlete at the end of the day. I’ve broken it down to three main reasons why an extremely attractive girl might be found at a sporting event. They are as follows: to impress a guy, for the pictures or social media posts, and for the guarantee of multiple attractive athletes.
For those impressing someone, it’s all about pretending you know what’s going on. There are four major sports with a whole lot of rules. For those who weren’t lucky enough to be raised in athletics, trying to understand what "off-sides" means can be a challenge. Especially when it means something different in each sport. The key has always been looking for those yes or no questions, and statements you can act as though you agree with. Then, in times of panic, simply laughing it off and ask, “How could I have forgotten that?” to reassure them that this "isn’t your first rodeo." Finally, If you are given ample preparation time, studying recent news and learning important names on the team or school can really blow a guy’s mind. They love the idea of a girl with a face as nice as yours being educated in their favorite subject.
But how could we remember this perfect night without a picture or 13? “Would you mind taking a picture for us?” is the sentence every girl has prepared before entering any arena or stadium. Instagram and Twitter likes will lead girls to step out of their bubble for a moment and actually address another human being to try and get that “Insta-worthy” pic to commemorate the game they hardly watched. But with this, they have created a memory that they can keep with them. Not to mention, it’s always fun attempting to remember what poses were taken on whose phone. As long as it may take to get the right angle, and as unbelievably stupid as they may look, the outcome is worth the 10 minutes of shame down by the first base line mid seventh-inning stretch.
At any sporting event, one will find a large crowd of people (often majority male) surrounding them, along with two teams stacked with muscular, 200-pound, commonly attractive men. This gives girls the ultimate excuse to stare and completely disregard the fact that an actual game is occurring. To women, this is a great way to scout out future husbands and potential bachelors for the future.
Now, this doesn’t mean every girl is clueless or that we are incapable of being educated on sports, but to say there’s a great population of these stereotypes is pretty valid. Don’t be worried if you ever find yourself guilty of this—it’s a way of life.
