As November inches closer and closer, I await making one of the most important decisions an American citizen can make: voting for the next President of the United States. To be honest, it's something that I've been excited for my entire life. The American political system has been fascinating to me and that was probably the only reason I wanted to turn 18 for a long time.
Imagine my surprise when I turned on the news to see all of the Republican candidates fighting over the sizes of each other's hands and many things that have absolutely nothing to do with running our country. And the Democrats honestly weren't any better. They all acted like children with their constant bickering and yelling over each other.
However, I did finally find a candidate that I genuinely liked as a potential leader for the next four to eight years. For the most part, he was a candidate that my ideals really aligned with and I eagerly awaited the day I turned 18 and my opinion became one that really mattered.
After Bernie and Ted somewhat reluctantly dropped out of the race, we were left with the two candidates that are left. One, a businessman with many lawsuits against him at any given time and a motor mouth that has people questioning his standing with the KKK. The other, a lawyer turned career politician constantly surrounded by some sort of scandal, being paid big bucks for her speeches for Fortune 500 companies.
In my honest opinion, I want a president, regardless of gender, wealth, or political standing, who I can honestly trust. At this point in the election, I'm not sure if I can say that about the major party nominees. Proven several times throughout history, people tend to pretend to be something they aren't just to get what they want, and politicians are no exception.
I'm very interested so see where this country goes come this November, but I'm not exactly sure if I think I like either direction it may go.
