Why Being The Only Girl Is the Best

Growing up as the only girl between two brothers I constantly wished that I had been given a sister. Between the fighting with my brothers and them ganging up on me to having nobody to play dolls with I thought that I was missing out and being deprived of "girl time." It wasn't until I was older (like graduating high school) that I realized that being the only girl in the family was one of the biggest blessings in my life. Here are the top 5 reasons why being the only girl in your family is the best thing ever:

5. You never have to share clothes, or a room, or anything

Being the only girl meant that all of your clothes were yours and yours alone. Boys don't want to walk around wearing floral dresses or skirts and so you didn't have to worry about anybody borrowing your wardrobe. Also, sharing a bedroom was out of the question and so you always had your own space to go to and hide when needed; which was always when you were stuck around boys all day.

4. You will forever be labeled as a tomboy

Being around boys all the time you tend to act like one in some ways and so growing up I was always labeled as a "tomboy" and to be honest I still consider myself one. I used to hate being called it and felt it took away from my femininity somehow. Now that I'm older I realized that being called a tomboy is actually a huge compliment. Being a tomboy means you can hold your own against the boys in your life and you will be able to stand up for yourself and when necessary take your place as "one of the guys."

3. You will always be daddy's little girl

I was always daddy's little girl growing up and to be honest I definitely utilized this to my advantage. Being the only daughter meant that you were the princess and your father never wanted you to grow up. It also means that daddy only has to pay for one wedding so you know big perk there. All kidding aside though being the only girl in your father's life makes the relationship with your father that much more special because no matter what you will always be his little girl.

2. You know how boys operate

This one is big when you get older and start to realize that boys don't actually have cooties. Being surrounded by boys at home whether it be just your brothers or them and all of their friends means you know how boys work. Knowing how they think and act becomes a huge lifesaver when it comes to dating because you know what to expect and what to say in certain circumstances so definitely thank your brothers and their annoying friends for this one.

and the number one reason being the only girl is the best thing ever is...

1. You have a lifelong best friend

Despite all the arguments and fighting throughout the years your brother will always be one of your best friends. I never realized how close I would get with my brothers and I honestly wouldn't change our relationships for anything in the world. Despite how annoying brothers are when growing up they turn into some of the best things in your life so if your brothers are still in the obnoxious brother stage hang in there because it does get better and you will appreciate them some day.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
