Why Being Offended Is A Waste of Time
Huffington Post

Note: This may offend some people but hopefully this will help you understand that being offended is a waste of time. Hence the name for this article.

Today more than ever it seems that people in society can come up with the absolute dumbest of reasons to be offended. Personally, in some cases when people get offended towards things like say a stand-up comedian or a movie and there is something in the material I believe it is quite possibly one of the funniest things to see. That is the funniest thing to see... UNTIL that same person goes onto a form of social media- more than likely Facebook- and lets the ENTIRE WORLD KNOW JUST HOW OFFENDED THEY ARE. How dare that movie be made without Cheryl's consent, am I right? Or, why did that one comedian say that joke about that one thing that I don't personally believe to be something that you should be making jokes about? If I'm paying money to see something it should be made or performed in the exact way that I want it to.

SEE HOW EXHAUSTING THAT IS?!?! I was exhausted just writing that and I even feel a little bad for those of reading but I just had to get my point across somehow at how ridiculous this whole thing can be. Now just imagine if your Facebook feed is filled with people that share videos and talk about how they felt so offended that somebody said something that offended them. Then that same person is going to manage to get upset when someone comments on their post about how they don't agree with their feeling of being offended. What did you think was going to happen? That everybody in the entire world is going to have the same exact point of view on topics as you?

If we have learned anything from society it's that there are billions of people on this planet with billions of different point of views on billions of topics. The worst part is that we already know this. We all understand that there are billions of other people out there in the world with different views, yet there are those in the world that choose to be offended by other peoples opinions because it is not how they think, and thus they feel the need to share it with the entire world like it is somehow going to make a difference. Again, Barb from Aberdeen, South Dakota, we all get it. We understand that you're offended by some of the things that Donald Trump has said, offended by Black Lives Matter, you hated that one joke out of an entire hour of stand up from that one comedian that you payed money to go see, you got offended when your cashier said merry Christmas instead of happy holidays (not because you don't celebrate Christmas, because you do, but because it's rude of the cashier to assume that you do and you felt that she's pushing her beliefs onto you by saying that). Yes... That is a real life example of something that happened to a co-worker of mine this past holiday season.

Maybe instead of Cheryl sharing on Facebook that she was upset about the new Starbucks cups that came out this holiday season, she could have instead talked about something more productive like how you can donate to the Salvation Army or, and it pains me to say this because it isn't "productive" but it's better than most stuff you see, share 473 photos of their families Christmas vacation. I would much rather be annoyed by an obscene amount of photos from someones family Christmas than see a bunch of posts about why someone was offended by something for any number of reasons.

I blame Facebook for all of this. Maybe we should all just delete it and get on with our lives. Eh, that'd be to easy. I look forward to seeing all of your posts about politics, race, and religion. Thanks for sharing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
