The Cleveland Browns are going to part ways with Johnny Manziel in March. So which city's bars and nightclubs will be lucky enough to have Manziel walk through their doors?
Manziel’s professional football career has been full of its ups and downs. From missing team meetings, injuries, involvement with the police, and of course, partying he has been a frustration to the franchise.
The Browns have had enough of Manziel's antics and will release him on March 9th when the NFL year starts, ESPN reports. If the Browns released Manziel on February 8th, the day after the Super Bowl, they would exceed their salary cap. The Browns can try and trade Manziel but due to his off-field issues, it will be difficult to find a team that will be willing to give up a proven player for Manziel.
If Manziel wants to continue his professional football career, he will have to test the free agent market and see who takes a chance on him. There are three teams that seem to be the front-runners in the Manziel sweepstakes and they are the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams and the Houston Texans.
The team that has showed the most interest in Manziel is the Dallas Cowboys. When Manziel was drafted in 2014, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed interest in him. Manziel has said that he would want to play in Dallas because he spends a lot of time in there when he is not in Cleveland. Tony Romo will more than likely be the starting quarterback for the Cowboys next year, so Manziel may have to spend some extended time on the bench.
The next team that we could see Manziel play for is the Los Angeles Rams. The team’s current quarterback is Nick Foles who has not shown the characteristics of a franchise quarterback. The Rams could use a high-profile star to sell jerseys and tickets. But being in Los Angeles, Manziel may be tempted to go out and party with the stars that call Los Angeles home. If Manziel could figure out a way to party in Cleveland, he will certainly find a way into Los Angeles.
The last team that may acquire Manziel is the Houston Texans. Another team in Manziel's home state of Texas is looking for a quarterback. The Texans used four different quarterbacks last season and still found a way to make it to the playoffs. Brian Hoyer, who was the team’s starting quarterback most of the year, is 30 years old and had an inconsistent season. Manziel could add some youth at the quarterback position. The Texans are close to becoming a prominent force in the league and Manziel could give them the extra punch they need or he could drag them down like he did to the Browns.
If Manziel wants to shine in the NFL he is going to need to put down the bottle and pick up the playbook. Wherever Manziel ends up, the NFL hopes that he will get his act together and once again become that exciting young superstar that he was in college.
