I've always loved the abstract concept of New Years Day being a "clean slate." It is a time where you can set goals for yourself and try to rid yourself of all the bad habits you acquired in the previous year. It bothers me when people say "New Years Resolutions are stupid," because they're really not.
Why is it stupid to set a goal for yourself in hopes that you achieve it?
Even if you don't, at least, you were motivated enough to jot down a list of ways you want to better yourself. This year instead of creating a list of New Years Resolutions or a bucket list of things I want to do by the end of 2016, I decided to create a list of things I want to be.
1. Happy
Instead of saying, "I want to let go of grudges" or "I want to appreciate what I have," isn't easier to say "In 2016 I want to be happy?" That's exactly what I want to do. I want to learn to let go of all the little roadblocks that get in the way of being happy and focus on the good.
2. Healthy
Instead of saying "I want to lose a ton of weight" or "I want to eat clean," why don't we just focus on becoming a healthy individual overall. If you set too fancy of a goal like "I want to run a half marathon," you might easily get discouraged if you fall off your running pattern. Setting a broader goal like this enables you to do so much, and it'll be easier to seek your goal.
3. Adventurous
Instead of saying "I want to travel," why don't you just say "I want to be adventurous?" Adventure seeks every corner and your eyes will be open to more opportunity if you make this your goal. I want to experience new places and new people in 2016.
4. Myself
It's been a journey, but I'm learning to love myself and that is the most important goal of 2016 that I have. In 2016, I want to feel more comfortable in my own skin.
5. Successful
Whether it be at work or at school my goal for this year is to put forth my best effort. It is hard to just say "I want a promotion" or "I want a 4.0." Do your best in 2016, and the success will follow.
Cheers.
