The Los Angeles Lakers lost their star guard and player of the last two decades. They have built around the player that lost since he came into the league and done everything he wished towards the end of his career. This great player I'm talking about is no other than the best player since Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant was drafted by the Lakers in 1996 and retired as a Laker in 2016. During his career won five NBA championships, was an 18-time all-star, won Most Valuable Player, 2-time NBA scoring champ, and a Slam Dunk Champion. He was a phenomenal player who helped his team in many ways.
Now since Kobe retired back in April, the Lakers are in search for a new player. A player that can be a franchise player that the could build around and take the team back to the playoffs and get them a championship once again. The only player that's on the Lakers team who have experienced a championship is Timofey Mozgov and Metta World Peace. The rest of the team include very young players with no championship experience or the playoff experience but they have the potential to make a big impact on this team and make those experiences happen. What's better than doing it now in this season. The players on the roster are talented but it's all about who is going to make a big impact on the team because there performance and energy are going to spark the other players.
The reason why I picked D'Angelo Russel is because he started to play better during the end of last year. He started having 20 and 30 point games. During those games shot the ball with more confidence. I saw the monster he was in college coming out of him. Going into the summertime, he began to hold a leadership role especially in the NBA summer league. He was giving his teammate who was drafted this year into the Laker, Brandon Ingram, tips on what he should do when on the court. D'Angelo lead the team in the NBA summer league in points and helped numerous games, including the buzzer beater against the 76ers. In the NBA preseason he's doing the same thing but better. He just lead the Lakers over the Nuggets the other night scoring 33 points. There's more to come from this kid in the future and this season can be his break out year. I can't wait to watch.
The Lakers have been building up their roster this summer and I have noticed that they have been building around D'Angelo. They got Jordan Clarkson to convert to a shooting guard when he was playing point guard before D'Angelo came into the league. Jordan is also coming off the bench, while Lou William is starting in the shooting guard position. A couple of forwards and centers were picked up this year, I only see the same guards from last year on the team and Russel is the only one who is officially starting this year. So they must be building around him, and is expecting him to be star in the future. The way he is playing, I expect it too. But we have to see if he lives up to expectations, I'll be watching him this season along with his millions of fans.
Stay tuned in!
