There is at least one off of every exit. Everybody has (hopefully) been there at least once. They all look the same, but each one has its own special charm. You know what I’m talking about, right? Well if you don't, it’s good ole Waffle House. THE restaurant of the South. Since 1955, this place has graced the streets with its big yellow sign and delicious waffles. Among some people, Waffle House has a bad rep. But just because it doesn’t have the highest quality food around doesn’t mean that it isn’t a great place to go and enjoy breakfast. This restaurant doesn’t get nearly as much appreciation as it should. So, on behalf of those of us who love WaHo, I would like to say thank you.
Thank you for always being there. And by there, I mean everywhere (right off every single exit, in big and small towns, in the middle of nowhere). There are 3 within 5 miles of my house, and I couldn’t be happier.
Thank you for being open 24/7. There are very few places that are available to cure those 3 a.m. cravings, but you are by far the best. The great part is that there are always other people there no matter what time of day/night it is.
Thank you for not breaking my wallet. It’s hard to pay for college and housing and be able to go out to eat all the time, but you make this possible. I have yet to come across another place where $6.85 will get me eggs, toast, hashbrowns, bacon, and a waffle. The All-Star Special is quite possibly the best deal ever.
Thank you for a kind, patient staff who can put up with just about anyone. It’s not easy to take care of regular customers, a group of at least 10 crazy teenagers, and 3 families. It’s a crazy job, but every waiter and waitress does their job well and makes sure that each customer is happy.
Thank you for bringing people together. Chances are that you feed people from incredibly different backgrounds all at one time. In one booth there might be an old couple who comes every Sunday after church. In another one, there might be a group of people who have been out all night partying. There might even be an entire sports team that takes up half the restaurant. No matter who is there, you are the common ground for all of them. You provide these people with the opportunity to interact with people that they may not have given a second thought to before.
You know how they say not every house is a home? Well, this is not the case for you. Home is where people feel most comfortable. You bring new and old friends together. You feed people who are celebrating, people who are upset, people who are going through just about anything. Waffle House may be the house of waffles, but it is home for so many people, and for this, we are grateful.
