Summertime is just around the corner and it is time to relax and make some memories! So, what are you doing this summer? There is so much stuff you can do; the possibilities are endless! Whether you are in high school, college or working here, are some things you should definitely try this summer.
1. Go on a road trip
Whether it is with your friends or family, a road trip is a great way to bond. Going on a road trip is fun and adventurous. There is nothing better than being able to roll down your windows, crank the music loud with a summer breeze at your back. The best kind of road trips are the ones where you have no destination in mind. Those are the ones where you end up finding hidden gems on the cross country road! So this summer gather your friends together, pack a bucket load of snacks and head out to destination nowhere.
2. Go to a water park
Water parks are a lot of fun for the whole family. With slides, lazy rivers and game rooms, there is something for everyone. For the daredevils, there are steep slides that spin and catapult you into the water. For the young ones, there is a kiddie pool with small slides and water guns for the boys. If slides are not your thing, there is always the lazy river. If you do not feel like getting wet at all, there is usually a game room that you can hang out in until everyone is ready to go.
3. Go to the lake or the beach
Honestly, everyone is looking for a tan this summer, and what better way to get that than catching some rays at the lake or beach? In Minnesota we have 10,000 lakes that we can go to this summer! Lakes are the best because you not only can go swimming, but you can also go fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. If you are lucky enough to get to the ocean this summer laying on the beach is the most relaxing way to get a summer tan. The sound of the ocean, the feel of the sun, and the smell of the sand gives you the perfect taste of summer. No matter where you are this summer, it is important to soak up some vitamin D while you can.
4. Learn to paddle board
A water sport that is getting popular right now is paddle boarding. Paddle boarding is when you have a board resembling but larger than a surfboard, and you take it out into the water and stand up. You paddle yourself around with a kayak paddle. It is so much fun to paddle board and it is great exercise! It takes a lot of core strength to stand up for a long time. So if you need to get in shape for those beach bodies a good way to get that nice core is by paddle boarding. Another nice thing about paddle boarding is that it does not even feel like exercise while you are paddle boarding until you walk on dry land. It is not as exhausting as running and a whole lot more fun!
5. Pull a mild prank on someone
A mark of true friends is if they make fun of each other in a good way. This summer it would be fun to pull a mild prank on one of your friends. Pranks like putting a rubber snake in your friend's bed, put Post-Its all over their bedroom door, or drawing a mustache on your friend while she or he is asleep. I am going to stop now though before I give you guys too many ideas.
6. Go paintballing
Paintballing is the perfect activity to do with a huge group of your friends. Playing against each other is really fun. It gives you a chance to do something for a couple of hours, and you get to shoot paintballs at each other! Plus if you have any grudges against one another here is a perfect way to take it out in a healthy way.
7. Have a movie marathon
There is nothing better than hanging out with your friends having a sleepover. Movie marathons are the best. Especially if you are all Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings fans. Although, if you do not like those movies, not to worry, there are plenty of movies to choose from. Whatever movies you and your friends like it is awesome to hang out with your squad!
8. Attend a concert
Attending a concert with your best friends is great! Concerts are at their prime time during the summer. There are some great concerts coming to Minneapolis/St. Paul this summer. One huge concert that is happening is the Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas concert at the State Fair. Other concerts that are happening are Beyonce on May 23 and Ellie Goulding on May 5th.
9. Go camping
Camping is the perfect getaway. it is a great way to just appreciate the outdoors, and creation. Sometimes camping can be hard, especially during mosquito season, but campfires and s'mores make up for it. Whether your family always goes camping together or you never have been camping, but want to try it camping is a great way to get close...even in a literal way.
10. Go to a drive-in movie theater
I do not know about you guys, but this one is on my bucket list. Going to a drive-in movie theater is something that you can't do in the winter anyways, so this summer I am making it my goal to do this. Ever since the movie "Grease," I have always wanted to go to a drive-in movie theater. I also think it would be a cute first date idea for couples, or friendship dates for those of us who are single.
11. Make memories
Take pictures! There is a lot of possibilities this summer, so it is important to keep your memories. There are so many things that you will want to remember in the future. Right now is the time to take chances, and do something you have never tried before. I know a lot of you will be busy going to work or taking summer classes, but it is important not to grow up so fast, and have some fun this summer!
