For the people that don’t have summer jobs or internships, summer can be very boring because you don’t have the routine of classes and schoolwork anymore. While this isn’t a bad thing, there’s nothing worse than a boring summer. These are a few things I plan to do with my summer, and I think everyone should try them!
1. Go skydiving
This isn’t for everyone, but good or bad, it will be an experience you’ll never forget. For me it was the best decision I’ve ever made and I plan to go again and again. It’s the ultimate adrenaline rush and it gives a pretty cool story to tell when you get back to school.
2. Go hiking
This one is something fun and healthy to do that is also free! Most places don’t charge you to hike the trails, and even though the miles may be a little rough, the view at the top is more than worth it. My goal is to hike as many trails as I can before summer ends, and it’s even more fun when you get your friends to tag along.
3. Take an unplanned trip
Spontaneity is one of the best things about being young. One day if you and your friends are bored, just pack up the car and drive. There is so much to see in North Carolina alone, so imagine what you can discover by traveling to other states and even to other countries, depending on your budget. I for one plan to see as much of the world as possible while I’m still young and able to travel on a whim.
4. Visit your friends
You know you miss them and they miss you. Go spend some time with them so you can build some summer memories and take more pictures to hang on the wall in your room back at school.
5. Go to the beach
This is the thing that everyone does, I know, but they all do it because it’s so much fun! The beach is my favorite place and I know a lot of you would agree with me. Not only is it fun to lay on the beach, playing corn hole and enjoying a cold beer, but there’s tons of stuff to do off the beach as well. Putt-putt, shopping, and great seafood are just a couple of my personal favorites.
6. Chill at the lake
It’s almost like going to the beach, but probably closer and more laid back.
7. Go kayaking/canoeing down the river
I haven’t done this yet, but I plan to! It’s a great way to adventure and stay sort of close to home. Going with a group of friends makes it that much more fun!
8. Have fun!!!
This is by far the most important. No matter what you are doing with your summer, make sure you’re having fun! That’s the point of summer vacation: taking a break to have fun before going back in the fall and getting back to work. For those that work throughout the summer, make sure you find some time to let loose a little. Enjoy being young while we still can!
